Poll question: X/Obama, X/X, or Obama/X? |
|
So, for 2008--do you think we have a better chance with Obama as our presidential candidate at the top of the ticket, as our veep candidate backing up someone with more experience, or just off the ballot altogether?
Also, if you wouldn't mind, fill in the Xs in the subject line of your reply.

9. Two Northeastern Jews? |

The world isn't ready for that yet. Heck, I'm a Northeastern Jew, and I'm not ready for those two.

10. What are you talking about? |

That ticket is three Northeastern jews. Lieberman is two Northeastern Jews, and Hillary is one. That totals three.

13. The thing about Obama is.... |

if nominated, DU and the rest of the party will back him like no other candidate. Nothing wrong with wanting a different candidate, but if he is nominated, he will have a lot of support.

a Gore/Clark ticket. Admittedly, my preferences for the second position are in flux. I think this combination would attract independent, moderate and swing voters.
I think the upcoming primaries will be wide open. Gore is the only possible candidate who has previously served as either a president or vice president. And that was eight years ago. Primaries should be about selecting the candidate most likely to prevail in the general election in my opinion. That requires a practical assessment when voting as opposed to an idealogical preference.

But Gore will be my choice as Presidential Candidate. No one else can fill the bill as far as I am concerned.

Clark and Edwards during the 04 primaries. Edwards was by far the more charismatic speaker. He was selling hope - and was a little short on detail. Clark on the other hand was very detailed in his presentation. That doesn't make for quite as much charisma. Clark named names in challenging the religious right while campaigning in the heart of the Bible Belt. He seemed comfortable discussing and challenging the role of religious leaders in the political arena - I think it is important to try to maintain some dialogue with this large block of voters who have allowed themselves to be manipulated. Also, with the continuing mess in Iraq I anticipate that Clark's strong military background will appeal to some swing voters.
Personally, I think that Edwards would have made a very viable and attractive future presidential candidate had he chosen to retain his Senate seat. Unfortunately, he did not and that will likely limit his future political prospects at the national level.

18. I think Obama would be a good running mate for Clark or Gore. |

I think that he's still too green to be at the top of the ticket.
