Poll question: Would you join the military as a Commissioned Officer for $100,000 (or more)?
I know anyone who isn't living the coziest of lifestyles might be tempted... What if they offered to pay off all your college loans and a $100,000 sign on bonus? Oh, and going to Iraq would not be off the table...

2. Hell no, you can't buy my morals and get me to kill for money
I suspect this will be a consensus on DU. Just a hunch.

3. I Was In For 4 Years For A Hell Of A Lot Less Than That
My combined salary for the 4 years I served didn't come to that much, hell yes, I'd do it again as an Officer with that kind of signing bonus.

5. How long would you have to stay in?
Living in debt isn't really living, either, so if it was only for a few years, I might give it a shot and hope to avoid killing or being killed.

Or is it 4 active/2 reserve?

14. Initial enlistment contracts for officers are longer
because it costs the government more money to put them through the schools.
There's basic training, then Officer Candidate School (which is about 3 months) and then they send them to a school to learn their professional assignment (MI, Armor, Quarter Master, etc).

7. No. Shooting innocents is not a suitable gig - no matter how much.
If something truly important were at stake, and I had some tiny bit of confidence in the administration, then I'd volunteer, regardless of the money.

8. Too much bullshit comes with a commission.
Now if they offer me 100K for an E-9 slot, that is tempting.

9. I'm just not cut out for the military.
Shaving my head is a complete non-starter. Not to mention the horrible food, the forced marching, having zero privacy, living with a bunch of smelly guys and the getting up at the crack of dawn bullshit. Some of it no doubt would be fun but the negatives far outweigh the positives. There is no amount of money that would get me to join, particularly if there was a good chance of me getting killed or maimed and not being able to enjoy it.

10. Yes
I served as a Corporal for a lot less. Why the hell would I turn this down. I'd be "old school". They wouldn't like me too much, but I would be leading combat ready troopers.

15. I'd do it
Techniaclly I would join for less than 100k, but that would only be for grunt work. I would take the 100k to be an officer though, why? Officers suck.

17. No!
No amount of money is worth killing innocent people in Iraq over. The onyl way i would join the military is if I felt I could contribute something, and not be a part of the Military industrial complex.

18. I think I'd do it.
It would be better than making $8.00 an hour like I do now.

Maybe my college degree could actually be put to use.

22. They don't print enough money to tempt me to do it again.
As I recall, they paid me the princely sum of $79 a month when I was young and stupid enough to join. 4 years later, I was living high on $165 a month.

But, I was working man not a strutting fratboy with bars or other tinware on my collar.
