Poll question: Jim Webb, 2008? I think I'm sold after watching this Olbermann piece
Edited on Wed Nov-29-06 08:14 PM by Truth Hurts A Lot
on Webb's military background and response to Bush's bullying.

What do you think?

ETA: Think about it. He did everything right when the repugs were trying to steal Virginia. He declared victory in a timely fashion. Tough on Bush. 2 purple hearts. An esteemed author. First in his class of Marines (NOW THAT'S TOUGH!! MARINES ARE NO JOKE!!).

1. I like him, but I'm not THAT easy.
Can we get to know him a bit before deciding he's THE ONE?

2. LOL
SERIES! He sounds awesome so far! And doesn't have years of baggage like some of our other potentials.

3. Not sure yet-
I want to see more before I vote. Right now, he looks good on foreign issues- but I don't know enough about his domestic priorities/ views.

But I have an eye on him for the future.

6. Here's another little nugget of Webb lore....
...he kicked the crap out of Lil' Ollie North in a boxing match when they were attending Annapolis. He is one tough mofo and I was introduced to his writings early on in my military career. ("Fields of Fire" was requisite reading for a young officer).

I could easily support him against any number of punk RepubliCONS.

7. What does everyone think about Webb's opposition to the Vietnam Memorial Design?
I personally don't give a shit. It seems a matter of taste based on his opinion that the wall would be a wall of shame, showing the dead without the context of the war. I disagree, but I can understand how he arrives at his position.

For the record, I like the guy a lot, but NOT for Prez. Dept of Veterans Affairs or Labor? Sure.

11. I think Webb has been misinterpreted.
If you have doubts about Webb's basic perspective on Vietnam, which is very balanced but unapologetic, I suggest reading Fields of Fire if you haven't done so, it's a good read and it gives a good perspective both of the war and of Webb's take on it all. Just because you're in the military and like it doesn't mean you're not a liberal populist at heart.

9. I would love the irony
considering he just kicked the ass of someone who had HUGE presidential aspirations. :D I'd much rather see him in the White House than Felix.

But it's too soon. Give him a few years in the Senate and then he'd be a fine candidate to run.

10. Everybody has conservative parts about them in some area. Webb's
seems to be in the financial area -- just like me. He seems to be liberal in others -- just like me.

I'm glad to have him as my senator.
