Yah, religion.

That's the thing about religion - nobody KNOWS anything. We/they believe this or that to be the ultimate truth, but nobody knows.

Yet, throughout history, right up until present day, we slaughter each other because one believes his God is the one true God, and the others says no fucking way.

Conversion by the sword. God's army.

And nobody really knows which is right.

I sometimes wonder what the human race could accomplish if not so goddamned set on fighting for God.

Silly human, silly human race.

no, not slamming the idea of religion, or any religion in particular, just the perversions that kill.

1. The Bush/Cheney doctrine seems to be based on.....
...."War is the only hygiene of the world," supposedly proclaimed by Italian author and advocate of fascism Filippo Marinetti, but really originates from Nietzsche's "Thus Spake Zarathustra."

2. Here's a thought:
NONE OF THEM ARE RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!

They're a buncha guntoting soothsaying cowards afraid to die and too afraid of life to love it for what it is........a mysterious gift with answers beyond mere mortal's comprehension.

3. If it isn't religion it'd be something else - like nationalism,
racism, feminism, communism etc. For some reason, people are real scardy cats about someone having a different opinion then theirs. Boggles the mind.

4. Yeah, but you have to understand that much of religion, and almost ALL of fundamentalist religion
is really just cover for power games and uptight people trying to control other people's sex lives. I mean- Fundamentalist Christians, Fundamentalist Muslims- with those folks, most of the time... it's really about SEX, isn't it? When you get right down to it?

Chalk it up to peculiarities in the primate brain, perhaps.

5. Oh yeah, lotta crusaders scared to death of sex.
As if who does who here in now really matters one iota in matters of eternity.

What gets me tho, is the righteousness to such an extreme level that the conclusion is others must agree and repent, or die (and, of course, burn in agony forever and ever).

You know? I'm not trying to say do away with God or the idea of a god, just damn, isn't it kinda like wearing corduroy pants? I think you make a terrible mistake wearing corduroy pants, but I don't feel a need to kill you over it. Why not just set those silly differences aside and work together to make this place a better place for all of us, here and now. The truth about the after-life and whether one was right about his/her supreme being will be known to each soon enough.

6. Totally agree, the Christianists hoping for Armageddon
have always left me with an eerie feeling. The Muslims who blow themselves up make me ill, though that may be more than religion (a complicated mix of religion and culture and nationalism).

7. Gold is the reason for the wars we wage.
Everything else is rationalization.

10. The problem isn't with the human race, it's with culture.
Salvationist religions are only a few thousand years old, while humanity is 3 million.
Other than that deceptively minor quibble, I agree with you.

All war is about power.
