"He's my president"
Here in Republican hell, I am considered a bit outspoken about my political views. In my own way, it's to remind folks around here that not everyone is Republican or a "Bushbot." Democrats here are considered outsiders, and for one to not only state, but boast, that he supports the Democratic party is like a sin against their God. Needless to say, I present a lot of shock-value in my statements. These people are so arrogant thatthey forget that the majority of Americans view Bush unfavorably and that there are more like me out there than them. But here on Gilligan's island, they think this IS AMERICA.

Today, I made a little statement about Bush being invited to speak at our local Toastmaster's club. The gentleman asked if I would like to speak, and I jokingly said, "Before or after George Bush?" (knowing how George is such a great public speaker, ya know). He laughed and said after. I then remarked, "Good, then I will go over well."

One of my Bushbot friends stated, "There you go again, bashing Bush and being political. Why don't you understand that he is the president, my president."

I then asked the million dollar question. Was Clinton your president, too? She remarked of course. I told her I bet she was doing the same thing then that I was doing now. I can't tell you the hell I caught for being a Clinton supporter in the 90's here on Gilligan's island. I told her this, and remarked that these Bushbots sure had short memories.

Oh, and yes, W stickers are still everywhere here on vehicles, especially SUVS with the Christian fish, the name of their kids and what activities they participate in, and big fat W stickers. The Bushbots are still around. Most of them seem to be right here, unfortunately.

3. Sorry, but I would have said, "Well, he certainly isn't my president nor that of 70% of America."

4. More W stickers
Edited on Thu Nov-30-06 10:57 AM by Newsjock
Yes, in this little corner of evangelical hell, I swear there are more and more obviously brand-new "W'04" stickers adorning the Escalades and Hummers. I can only hope it's their last gasp of desperation before their interest-only mortgages on their suburban McMansions leave them high and dry.

Here, all the election did is make the Republicans angry and more vocal -- the county actually voted more Republican than it did in 2004. I can see it every day on the street, and even in the story choices at the local newspaper. We haven't seen so many overtly "Christian" stories in months, and they're not "Christmas" stories, either.

But thanks to W's economy, it's not like I can pack up and find a decent job in a more civilized area.

6. Didn't you feel better 11/8?
I also live in GOP hell. I felt so much better after the election. I felt for the first time I was the majority and we were right. Hang in there.

8. In my neck of the woods,
which is also predominately republican, things are still subdued. Arkansas elected a Democratic Governor, Lt. Governor, and most if not all state offices. You don't see W stickers around at all, though you still see the fish emblems. I think one reason its quiet is that so many folks know someone who has been in Iraq, often more than one tour, or know someone who was killed there. The soldiers are bringing home some truths, and the folks are waking up. I know of at least one lifelong Republican who voted a straight Democratic ticket this last election because she couldn't stand what Bush had done.
