Bush 'routinely ignoring Blair'

Blair has been Bush's closest ally since the 11 September attacks Britain's relationship with America is "one-sided" and Tony Blair is routinely ignored by President George Bush, a senior US official has said. Kendall Myers, a senior analyst at the State Department, described Britain's attempts to influence US policy as a "sad business", the Times reported. Mr Myers reportedly said he felt "a little ashamed" at Mr Bush's treatment of the prime minister.

We have not only failed to do what we wanted to do in Iraq, but we have greatly strained our relationship with Britain
Kendall Myers, US State Department "It was a done deal from the beginning, it was a one-sided relationship that was entered into with open eyes... There was nothing, no payback, no sense of reciprocity."

The official - a specialist in British politics - made the comments at an academic forum at Washington DC's School of Advanced International Studies on Tuesday. He reportedly said that despite Mr Blair's attempts to influence the Bush administration's policy, "we typically ignore them and take no notice - it's a sad business".

Mr Myers admitted that the growing unrest in Iraq was also affecting relations across the Atlantic. "It's a bad time, let's face it," he is quoted as saying. "We have not only failed to do what we wanted to do in Iraq, but we have greatly strained our relationship with Britain." As a result, he predicted relations between the White House and Downing Street would break down.

1. I was going to make a joke, but it's probably not a very nice one
But that Pet Shop Boys song "I'm With Stupid" might hint at why Blair is willing to put up with this abuse.

2. IS this bad or good news?

I can't tell. Tony such a shallow middle management type that I can't really have any sympathy for him, and although he's hardly the sort of personality that could persuade Bush of anything it's unlikly that anyone is.

Still, poodle is as poodle does.

4. Perhaps not yet, C60.

I think will take a bit, probably quite a bit more, to lever the UK away from the States. Your backyard and mine go waaaaaaaaaaay back...

5. Yep, he's just about down to Laura and Barney ...
Even the poodle is running the other way ... and don't forget Poland is pulling its troops out, too.

6. What kind of master would he be if he listened to his poodle?
