1. Well, that's too far out front for me to hold my breath...
It would be great if they came home in the last half of 2007.

2. What parade?
They've accomplished exactly NOTHING. And that's being generous.

Our people did their best, but in a hopeless quest...It's not their fault, it's the fault of the assholes who put them in this no-win situation...

6. I hope it has a big float, featuring a 3-seater dunking tank
For Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld. The organizations who provide services for disabled vets can raise more funds by selling special embossed balls, which the onlookers along the parade route can throw at the tank in an attempt to dislodge the threesome from their perches.

The official parade will be all about stroking *'s psychotic ego.

10. and what do YOU suggest?
They deserve a parade for being sent over to there. These people are going to have to live the rest of their lives with this. Iraq is a mess (not their fault) and they were sent over there for the wrong reasons (not their fault).

Our returning service people need to know that we love them and support them. They've got a long hard road ahead of them when they return and try and deal with this bullshit.

12. I think "THEY" = the troops, which really do deserve one
not the administration - the only parade they deserve is the one leading them to the hague

3. How long have they been saying that
they are going to turn over authority? How many times have they done it? This has nothing to do with troops coming home. This is all for show. A turnover means nothing. We still have fourteen permanent bases in Iraq, not to mention the world's largest embassy. Our troops aren't going anywhere.

16. al-Sadr has Maliki up against the wall
the PM has to say something about getting the Americans out if he has any hope at all of holding his "government" together.

the purpose of his saying that is to placate al-Sadr; no more, no less.

14. I'm against the parade idea. Here's why:
Edited on Thu Nov-30-06 03:12 PM by Coventina
I know good-hearted DUers want to honor our brave soldiers for having to do something they never should have had to do.

But a parade would *I feel* glorify the war more than the soldiers. And I think many of the soldiers would probably feel slightly embarrassed by such a spectacle.

What I think should happen is that we actually SUPPORT the troops LONG TERM after they return. I want to make sure they get the medical, emotional, and spiritual care that they will need. Virtually every single one is going to need care on some level.

I want their families to be supported as well, given the tools they need in order to assist their loved-one back to civilian life.

That would truly be honoring the troops, for who they are and what they pledged. But it would not be a glorification of the mission.

my .02

on edit: clarity

15. even the last place soccer team gets trophies now
how about no parade, impeaching bush + cheney, and halving the pentagon's budget?

then we can have a party because the republic will be saved.

17. Here's the stumbling block, the Persian Proxy Pals
Hezb'allah East--they won't go without a fight, mark my words:

Request to disband militia
Later Thursday, Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice pressed al-Maliki to disband a heavily armed Shiite militia blamed for much of the country's sectarian violence and were told by al-Maliki that controlling the group was no "big deal."

There's the roadblock, there. Just sayin'....
