Anyone Have Any Words of Farewell For Sandra O'Connor?
I know I do.

Dear Justice O'Connor;

You sold your legacy for this moment when you trampled over state's rights and the will of the people to select George W. Bush so that a Republican could choose your replacement. Are you pleased? Is Justice Alito what you envisioned for America? Have you been itching to see abortion outlawed in your lifetime, along with the Voting Rights Act, Social Security and any advances that have been made since the days of FDR? If so, then you must be mighty proud.

I guess you did not have the courage to make those tough, far right wing decisions that Justice Alito is going to make. How comforting it will be to you in your retirement years to watch the Constitution which you have protected reduced to a mandate for executive rule. How reassuring to know that the courts will exist to protect the interests of rich white people like you and your husband---unless you run afoul of a major corporation. Corporate interests have to come first. And anyone who says that the law should be applied equally regardless of who the parties are is clearly a fool---just look at the way you ruled in Bush v. Gore.

1. Thanks for NOTHING, sandy-baby.
Thanks for selling out your gender. I hope no one you know ever is forced to carry an unwanted pregnancy. Or be forced to marry it.

4. I already wrote her when she helped appoint Bush King
I told her that her mentor, Barry Goldwater, would be repulsed by her actions. I also wrote her a similar letter when she decided to resign during Bush's administration.

Shame on her. May she and all her children and children's children to the 1000th generation rot in hell.

5. Dear Justice O'Connor
Thank you for your years of public service, for helping to open the door to women on the Supreme Court, and for standing up for us far more than I would have expected from a Reagan nominee. You are a true moderate, and I believe that you did the best you could with the cases that were presented to you.

I wish you and your husband well, and send good wishes for a safe and happy retirement. Godspeed.

You say your hobby is politics. You aren't familiar with what disservice she has done to this country?

21. I appreciate that she has been a swing vote.
Rather than the party-line idealogue she might have been. I try to be a realist, and try not to despise people that I sometimes disagree with.

So her complicity in appointing this fascist regime to the presidency doesn't bother you?

29. You're cross-examining me.
That doesn't pass for a discussion, but I'll go along with it.

Am I happy she was part of the vote that allowed for President Bush to come to office? Of course not, I think he has been terrible for this country. Do I think that vote makes her part of some fascist cabal trying to kill America? No, that's a ridiculous position, and nobody of substance is going to give any time or respect to a person espousing it.

I contend that Mrs. O'Connor voted her conscience and beliefs, and I can respect her for that, even if I didn't always agree with her decisions. In fact, I'm happy that I agreed with them as often as I did, considering her appointment during the Reagan 80s. Does this view seem unreasonable to you?

33. Predictable--yes. Unreasonable--left to interpretation
Are you familiar with her statement (paraphrased because search function is off) that she was afraid she would have had to wait to retire if Gore were elected since she wasn't going to allow a Democrat to choose her replacement?
I used to have respect for SDO back when I was a young teenage woman about her accomplishments and the fact that she was from my home state.
That adulation is long gone.

35. No, I'm not familiar with that statement.
I also highly doubt it exists as you've paraphrased it. Supreme Court Justices are notoriously self-removed from partisan politics, and leave more to guesses than they openly talk about. I could be wrong, but I'd like to see more than the questionable paraphrasing of a person who finds "Fuck you Sandra. Your legacy is fascism and back alley abortions." to be reasonable political discourse toward a groundbreaking woman who is retiring to care for her sick husband.

So, I can't and won't bring myself to express open contempt for Justice O'Connor. If you choose to do so, that's fine, but I don't think it compliments you.

7. I do.
Justice O'Connor:

You are leaving the Supreme Court to spend time with your husband. Because of you and your shortsightedness, thousands of women will never have another second with their husband, and children will never know their fathers. This is only the beginning.

By the way, don't forget to wipe your feet on the Constitution on your way out, just like your replacement will do on his way in.

9. 9 -11, 100,000 + dead in Iraq, national debt, katrina, & more
Thanx Sandy!

< Opponents argued that it was improper for the court (by the same 5–4 majority) to grant an injunction stopping the recounts pending the outcome of the ruling based on the possibility of "irreparable harm" to "George Bush's reputation as the legitimate winner." Injunctions for irreparable harm cannot usually be granted if doing so would do equal or greater harm to another party (in this case, Al Gore).>

She also wrote that the case could not be used as a legal ruling in any future or past cases. She knew
what the court did was illegal.

24. Any good she had ever done was completely undone
by her vote in Bush v. Gore - that case was total bull shit. The majority on that decisions are always screaming that they support states rights - unless of course it is inconvenient to their predetermined result. Just like Roberts in the recent Oregon assisted suicide case - that puke actually invoked the commerce clause. THEY ARE HYPOCRITS, LIARS AND CHEATS.

I have often wondered if Ms. O'Connor felt guilty about her vote Bush v. Gore I kind of think she might have because she really wanted to retire during Bush first term and didn't - I wonder if secretly she was hoping Bush would be defeated and waited to retire ....but that just might be wishful thinking - in any event she was the deciding vote on a completely bogus decision - and I'm sure they all know their decision was bogus and they don't give a shit because their ends justified their means

She is retiring to spend more time with her husband who is suffering with alhimers(?).

You want to blame anyone it is the cowards in the senate who wanted to give alito "An up or down vote" by not voting for the filibuster.

in what are probably the last days of their life together.

BushCo and our turncoat Democratic Senators are the ones who deserve our scorn tonight, not Justice O'Connor.

if after death, O'Connor makes it to the gates only to be told by St Pete that the vote was 5-4 against her entering.

Imagine the look on her face.
