Poll question: Does Bush have the power to overrule the Baker commission?
Edited on Thu Nov-30-06 04:54 PM by BurtWorm
Of course, as alleged "head of the government" and the one who officially appointed the commission, he does. But only time will tell if he's dumb or careless enough to wield it. Do you think he will?

The test: In Estonia this week, when asked what his plans were for Iraq, Bush used the same old language, even the "V" word (victory). But the ISG, it's being reported, will recommend pulling most troops out, beginning as soon as practicable.

Will Bush determine what the policy will be, or will Uncle Jim?

1. Option # 2 - adding to clarify:
... Bush will take the credit for the policy and Baker/Poppy etc will let him, even though it was all them saving his miserable ass, as usual.

5. I tend to think you're right.
I think they may let him just ramble on and on about whatever he wants to ramble on and on about, but they seem to be taking hold of the reins already. Witness the Rummy defenestration.

2. He'll only go along with it if the commission agress with HIS position
If not, he'll do some lip service changes to policy instead.

3. The Iraqis, Syrians, Iranians and Saudis will decide what the policy will be.
Somebody should send a memo to Dumbya explaining "irrelevance" to him.

4. System Breakdown - Inevitable
Edited on Thu Nov-30-06 04:47 PM by ThomWV
It seems this way to me. George W. Bush, the man, will not give up his power or even be able to give up his self-identity as 'the decider'. In the mean time investigations that will be beginning just about 6 weeks from now will demasculate his Presidency even further. Between the two Iraq will be left out in the decision-making cold and will break down into complete chaos before anyone on this side reacts.

Sad but predictable.

unless someone finally holds him accountable. the oil companies won't let him leave iraq and he has his 'legacy' to think of.

10. It's a Little Late for Leash Yanking, Don't You Think?
It doesn't usually work after age 18, and only rarely before.

12. I figured something big was happening, since Bush Sr. has dispatched his henchmen
I'm talking, of course, of Goss and Baker, stalwarts of Father's gang.

14. Interesting that most respondents seem to think Bush is calling the shots.
Interesting and a little surprising to me.

9. He'll hold his breath till he turns blue; he'll drag his feet long enough to
demonstrate that he is King, and that he and only he will make the decision; Poppy and Co will stand by patiently until he is finished acting out.

11. The WHOLE SYSTEM ALREADY HAS broken down.................
Edited on Thu Nov-30-06 05:10 PM by Double T
BUT, the USA will be driven out of Iraq by the Iraqi citizens fighting against the 'occupier', the Baker Commission's 'idea' to 'withdraw' the troops will become bushes 'idea', when ALL the troops have been withdrawn, bush will declare 'victory' AND state that there 'WAS' a democratic government in place when HE pulled 'US' out of Iraq, and it will be ALL Maliki's fault when the Iraqi government collapses and is replaced with a baathist dictatorship.

13. It has no power at all. It is just a group of people.
It has no standing under our constitutions.

15. I think the problem is bigger than bush
There is a shaddow government with cheney and the oil companies trying to hold onto their power , I can't see them letting go easy no matter what bush does .

I just don't see an easy of simple way out of this mess . They have invested too much damage now to face the end in their terms .

16. They Can't Come Out of the Shadows
because then they are obviously criminal.

They don't have a second-string to throw in to replace anyone.

They are screwed, and will lose all that they stole, sooner or later. Preferably sooner.
