Did Condi leak the Hadley Memo?
Tim Grieve at Salon.com hints that she did:

Update: Will there come a day when the White House press corps stops playing along with the "on background" joke? Don't count on it. In the New York Times' latest report on Bush's meeting this morning with Maliki, reporter Sheryl Gay Stolberg passes along quotes from a "senior administration official" who attended the meeting. Stolberg says the official was "granted anonymity" to discuss the meeting -- but then refers to the official as a "she." So far as we know, neither Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, nor Education Secretary Margaret Spellings nor Transportation Secretary Mary Peters made the trip to Jordan. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice did. Can anyone explain why we're playing this game?

Would this make the reason for the leak any clearer? (To me it doesn't.)

1. If she thought it would help her husband
of course she would.

2. How would it help him?

I'm really not getting that. Clearly it was meant to zing Maliki, but releasing it on the day of the meeting? Wouldn't that harm Bush, too? It seems to have. This would only reconfirm in my mind Condi's utter incompetence. This administration can't seem to help but sink to the level of its least able.

4. Of course, she did look at the other side of the coin
because she really is an incompetent twit.

I doubt if she even leaked it on purpose because she doesn't even know where to draw the line.

3. "...why we're playing this game? "
Simply because no one in the Bush Administration is willing to take responsibility for ANYTHING! They don't even feel responsibility is a valuable element of character - admission of responsibility would be a liberal weakness.
