Harry Reid Smacks Miles O'Brien ( I am so proud!) LOL!
Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 07:57 PM by cryingshame
I've been saying elected Democrats have to deal with biased Mediawhores now and not wait for some vague time in the future when we're back in power to re-regulate.

IMO, Democrats need to start subtly calling out the Mediawhores... and Harry
Reid just did... Howard Dean should take note:

M. O'BRIEN: What are you going to do about uniting the Democratic Party, though? When people look at Democrats, they see them all over the map on the war. They see them all over the map on Alito, and whether they should filibuster. You know, it's the classic Democratic scenario, it's not a very well-organized outfit. What can you do to bring them together?

REID: Well, Miles, I think it may be in your mind a classic Democratic scenario, but it's not in the minds the American people. We've done a great job. We've stopped the privatization of Social Security. We've got drilling in ANWAR. We've stopped a nuclear option. We've been able to stop all these mischievous programs of the president, and we've been together more than in the history of this country.

Elected Dems that get face time on tv need to learn how to do these digs on a regular, relentless basis.

2. Well.....
What mischievous programs of the president did our elected Dems stop?
How did we stop a nuclear option? By voting for Scalito?

Sorry Harry, I love ya, I really do, but if they try to spin us as something other than unified, we've gotta fight the spin with something better than this.

8. Better then bluntly saying it's all in the INTERVIEWER'S MIND?
Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 08:03 PM by cryingshame
what the fuck else could Reid do in that interview?

Literally punch Miles in the face?

That'd certainly get some airtime... but then we'd be back to the "angry democrats" meme. :D

11. I have to agree with you
Stopping the nuclear option is not necessarily a good thing. I wish they had gone nuclear. We could have used that tantrum to our benefit. We haven't stopped any of his malicious programs at all. Spying, anyone?

15. Stopped the nuclear option?
That's like saying, he didn't knock the teeth out of the right side of my face, because I turned my head just in time and he hit the left side instead.

The Dems are worthless now.

They suck.

Reid's full of it.

I'm in deep mourning for my country.

I don't know if I'll ever get over it.

29. Yours, more than hers. Because given what we are faced with
people are gonna cave. They're gonna feel terrible and vent and whatever. That's human.

It doesn't take skill to leave them there or kick 'em. Skill is bringing them 'round.

Foxhole 11 Bravo, you know that. Pull yourself up, sir.

5. Sorry Dean is doing that much better
Reid is directly attacked as leader. He makes a very weak answer, then in the next question, goes on smacking the previous leaders (I dont know who exactly he was smacking, but this is weak, very weak - where Dean would have told Miles he was carrying GOP talking points, Reid can barely defend himself, and sadly, it is because, on this one, O'Brien is right. Im which of the votes he is talking about did he keep the caucus together and how can we consider the compromise a Democratic success?

If Dean's called out mediawhores to their faces during an interview then I'll toast him all the while demanding he do the same relentlessly in ever interview... along with every other Democratic leader who gets on tv with these whores.

But he learned some serious rules of the media game during the primaries, and it appears he has passed them on.

9. Doesn't Sound Tough To Me
Sounds like a lame non-aggressive response. The dems are a bunch of soft pansies. Why doesn't he really tell Miles off, as he deserves it? All the Dems do is try to reason and explain, and play all nice when responding to these insulting questions by the so-called "liberal" media. I'm waiting for the gloves to come off, and have someone go after these idiots on the news shows who get away with saying ANYTHING they want, because they've been given their own show by their conservative bastard bosses.

13. That's as good as Dean on AAR
Maybe Harry took note ;) -I kid; he's been as bluntly direct as Howard has been.

They were discussing media spin on Abramoff:

snip>
.... another problem frankly is the media is lazy as all get out. I can't tell you how many times I've seen the media write the Democrats were involved in taking Abramoff's money. That is simply a lie. Nor did he direct any money to any Democrats. Do you believe the mainstream newspapers that print that crap. It is astonishing to me that reporters won't get off their butts and look at the truth.
....
...This is a Republican finance scandal.

And the media is lazy.

WTF? It sounds like Dennis the Menace in the White House.

How about corporate power-grab programs, or neocon agenda programs. Mischievous? Ugh. How lame.

By the way, I loved how Dean slapped down Wolf Blitzer over the Abramoff issue. No argument of the spin, just the facts, man, just the facts.

Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 08:17 PM by never_get_over_it
Howard Dean does this often, most recently whne he is asked about Dems taking money from Abramoff.

Also exactly how did the Dems stop the privitization of Social Security - I think the gigantic unpopularity of the American public stopped that

Two I'll give them ANWR - but your post should say we stopped drillng in ANWR not we got drilling in ANWR

and how exactly did they stop the nuclear option - seems to me the threat of it worked pretty well yesterday....oh they stopped it by not filibustering - please he had to pick these pathetic items because there are few or no others

but its good he is spinning even if his spin is bull shit - most people won't know that -

32. Again, Dean rebuted the points forcefully but failed to call out Blitzer
he didn't confront Blitzer for repeatedly spewing GOP talking points.

Dean did very well rebutting but didn't point out Blitzer's whoredom.

23. do it like ...
the Repugs! Only better. Seriously, the Dems should watch footage of the Repuglicans spinning and obfuscating their way through TV Land and take notes. The Repugs have turned it into a very successful and convincing form of High Art. The Dems should just steal their techniques, only lace it with honesty and a single set of UNIFIED talking points.

Just my two cents.
