Why are Republicans so determined to destroy the Constitution?
I don't understand why, being Americans and living in a country that is accustomed to freedom, they're so eager to sign up for totalitarianism and to destroy every protection we have in the Constitution.

I just don't understand how you can embrace a dictatorship when you've tasted freedom.

And yet they rack up action after action attacking the very foundation that makes us who we are - Americans.

They want to eliminate free speech. They want to eliminate freedom of the press. They want to eliminate the right of the people to peaceably assemble. They want to eliminate the right of the people to petition their government for redress of grievances. They want to eliminate freedom of religion. They want to eliminate the right of the people to be secure in their persons and property, without being subject to illegal search and seizure. Heck, the list goes on and on... I'd be up all night trying to list them all.

In short, they don't want to live in the United States, they want to live in one of the totalitarian regimes - like Russia, or China, or North Korea. Anything the "dear" leader wants is OK with them.

I don't get it. I just don't understand how you could live in the US, and embrace totalitarian ideals. What's driving these people?

2. But why do the sheep want this? I can understand people
like Bush and Cheney wanting absolute power, but why would the sheep want to give it to them?

3. Because sheep are stupid?
As long as they promise to keep the wolves at bay, the sheep will give up anything for the illusion of security.

6. So the sheep think it's OK to start a bonfire with their fellow
sheep, as long as they don't get tossed on the pyre?

There's something seriously, seriously WRONG with their thinking ability.

Why do they trust Bush and Cheney, anyway?

10. A number of reasons I am sure. One is that they are afraid, and these
people somehow represent safety to them. They pick out a victim and vilify them. They explain how they will torture them to get them to talk about their plots against the sheeple.

They explain that they will continue to bomb them until the job is done.

They explain that the economy is good and strong.

And the sheeple, too stupid and/or afraid to say, "hey, that guy is lying his ass off to me", just nod their heads and head off to their twelve hour workday in the mines.

8. You've pretty much answered your own question.
"I just don't understand how you can embrace a dictatorship when you've tasted freedom."

When you're the dictator, it's easy. It's a constant burr in the sides of these people that The Constitution is a very liberal document, or as Junior puts it, "...a damned piece of paper." I always shudder when I hear these jerks talking about a Continental Congress, as that could allow them to re-write the whole thing. Do you really think BushCo would even consider any part of The Bill of Rights & Constitution anything more that kindling? Separation of power? Get real. Limits on government? Please. And in order to achieve these ends, once you've gotten free speech out of the way, you're half way home. Free press? Hell, the MSM is so compliant, we may as well refer to it as Pravda, so even though a "free press" exists in theory, they've pretty much already given it up. If it weren't for the internet in particular, nobody would have any idea as to what these bastards are doing. So of course, that's where their newest front will be. Newt Gingrich just gave a speech essentially telling us we should be ready to give up our free speech in order to save ourselves from terrorists, targeting of course, the internet. And he wants to be president! Hear anything about it on the MSM? Keith Olberman, in another brilliant commentary, is the only person who called him on it.

November gave me hope that enough people in this country have decided to stop being sheep and get these fascists out of office, so we'll be safe for a while. There's an adage about the price of freedom being eternal vigilance. I honestly never thought it would come to mean vigilance against our own government. Thankfully, our founders did, and gave us the tools we needed to keep our "leaders" in check, and the vote is the most powerful one we have. I don't care how big the check is, the writer is still only one vote...we have to remember we outnumber them, and always will. We just have to come to grips with the fact that our elected reps will not have our best interests at heart unless we make them.

15. There are three factions, with three different reasons
First faction is the religious right. They hate the separation of religion and government, and they hate the personal liberties that go against their beliefs.

Second are the corporate goons--they hate the part of the Constitution that sets up government to regulate business. The Constitution is as much an economic as political document, and it creates an egalitarian business world. Conservatives hate that. "Free market" is only a catch phrase for them.

Third are the states rights people, or in other words, the bigots who are still mad about desegregation. They don't want a strong federal government, they want stronger local governments, because those are easier to bully. They want to control school boards and county and city governments, so they can force school prayer, discriminate however they wish, etc.

It's an unholy trinity that battles for control of the Republican Party. Funny thing is, when they get into power, they often wind up at odds with each other, and their coalition begins to fall apart. Not fast enough, though
