It's World AIDS Day
25 years into this horrible epidemic. And there doesn't seem to be an end in sight.

I wish the United States could be in the very forefront into fighting this tragic epidemic. For instance, we were supposed to have pledged $15 billion to fight AIDS in Africa under this administration. But, well, like so many of his promises, that did not come to frutition. Only when it comes to war does this administration deliver.

On this day, it's heartbreaking to see what's going on.

1. You want heartbreak?
Look at the number of people even looking at the AIDS related articles posted so far. It is clear that few at DU care about the epidemic. Why should we expect the government to care?

I wish people would stop acting as if it were cured. I had a family member tell me how "Aids patients are living longer and longer" so it's not really as "bad" as it once was...

In memory of my Uncle Robert Paulsen, I'm making a donation:

Again, thanks for the reminder. :grouphug:

4. Thanks for the reminder.....
It seems like I was so much more conscious of a lot of things when I was in college - World AIDS Day, Earth Day etc. But as a result of this post, I'm going to our local AIDS vigil tonight. (If it doesn't get iced out - CRAZY weather here in Southeast Michigan today).

9. Good post, especially that last point in the second paragraph
What if they spent more money on building on our future? This goes of course to all other nations as well. Far too much hawkishness and short term positioning, far too little care for the sick and the poor.

It is important to promote this day, big hug
