The Arrogance and stupidity of the radical right (long)
It's been a week since Thanksgiving, and maybe you heard some of these well known chestnuts while you were scarfing down turkey and dressing.

"I was at the social security office to talk about my benefits, and all I saw were Mexicans and Ni**ers in there. One family drove away in a Mercedes convertible." Yeah, right, I'm sure that really happened. And besides, here you are bitching about these "minorities" getting "handouts" and you're there talking about your entitlements. Hello, hypocrisy!

"Democrats are calling for the draft (referring to Rangel). My two boys aren't going. Hell no, I'll take them to Canada!" Same people who fully support the war, wants to nuke the mid-east, and take all of their oil. It's okay for other men and women to make the sacrifice, but NOT MY KID!

"Did you see that report on channel 4 news? The Gideons are passing out Bibles at the high school, and someone calls the station to complain and the news people come out to make a report. Here are those liberals again, taking God out of our schools. No wonder there are so many problems." Well, I guess you haven't noticed that we have a growing Muslim and Hindu citizenry in our community. What if a Muslim group handed out the Koran? Oh, would you and the rest of your religious fanatic friends be raising hell.

"Abortion is murder. Think of those poor babies." Well, abortion has gone on for a long time, and it will continue to. If we outlaw it here, then maybe our more "priveleged" girls will go to other countries to have the procedure legally. And the others? Oh, the coat hangers will do the trick. Never mind about the health of the woman. And, what about all the kids in Iraq who have lost their lives in this war. You never seem to cry for them. All you seem to care about is when the child is in the womb. When they enter the world, well, "Kid, you're on your own."

"Government is too involved in our lives. Let people pull themselves up by their own bootstraps, like I did." Well, stories like this are few and far between anymore. Didn't you go to a state university? (tax dollars). Didn't you work for the state govt? (tax dollars). Aren't you drawing state retirement?(state is helping you there, too). The only folks who I can really point to that can claim this are the people who were young men and women getting their starts during the Depression. Greatest generation, thank you for your service. But you did have the GI bill, which you richly deserved. But pulling yourself up by your bootstraps; you had help.

"Damnminorities. All my taxes go toward welfare for able-bodied workers. Women keep having babies to draw more money." Ah, I do believe that there are more whites on the welfare rolls than minorities. And don't give me that shit about using food stamps to buy the most expensive steaks in the store and boxes of cigarettes. Oh, and have you noticed that most of your tax dollars are going to support the military industrial complex and this god-forsaken war. You never seem to complain about that.

"We don't need universal health care. In Canada, they have to wait togeta procedure done. And they pay high taxes to support it." Didn't you tell me it took you over a week to see your physician? How long did you have to wait? Doesn't your health care plan, which you pay an ungodly amount, not let you choose your own doctor? What was your copay? How much more money comes out of pocket? Oh, and your son is about to turn 18, and you'll have to drop him from his coverage. He's not going to college, and he's having a hard time finding a job. Highly likely he won't have benefits. There is the military...

"That damn Kerry from MASSATAXES dissed our soldiers. Son of a bitch. He doesn't support our troops. Thank God we have a man in the White House that is pro military." Oh, you mean someone who "served" in the National Guard thanks to his daddy and went awol in the process. And the vice-president with his countless deferments. Never mind that Kerry served and was wounded. Oh, that's right, his wound was probably self-inflicted and he went to Vietnam to promote an upcoming political career. Yeah, that's right.

I'm sure there are countless more you could share. These are just a few examples from here on Gilligan's island.

1. my family and my husband's family are all liberal democrats
hell I would label some of them socialists.

Our dialog this weekend was...

"Finally something to celebrate about..."

"I can't stop smiling...."

"I hope they impeach the bastard in January"

4. conservatives tend to see issues in stark black and white terms . . .
with little thought of nuance in an increasingly complex world . . . they want simple solutions, and they want them now . . .

thinking people, on the other hand, try to look at the various shades of gray and craft solutions that account for competing interests and a variety of outlooks . . . the solutions are never simple, but at least try to accommodate everyone's legitimate needs (as opposed to wants) . . .

that's how I see it, anyhow . . . jmho, as always . . .

5. And you're spot on
They have the inability to think critically and look at the big picture. All they seem to see is how things affect themselves. Very, very selfish folks.
