50 vehicles off the interstate between Madison and Beloit, WI |
|
But I made it to work safely after 2.5 hours.
To the drivers of all those cars (and especially the trucks) who passed me going way too fast for conditions and ended up in a snowbank: have fun.

Glad you made it in safely....be careful on the way back....
I know what you mean about those damned trucks that think they can still do 75-80 on slush covered roads....they're dangerous!

3. A trailer truck with GM vehicles loaded on it coming from Janesville |

PASSED me right before I got to Beloit. Snow everywhere, and this guys driving like there's no tomorrow. There were 3 vehicles stuck on the ramp going into Beloit- very hard to see where the road was under all that snow.
I didn't see anything that looked like a really bad accident, nothing involving 2 vehicles. People should stay home today or SLOW DOWN.

4. Its 53 miles, a little less than an hour. |

When the interstate is clear, its a very easy drive- close to the highway on both ends. Today I was basically driving into a blizzard.

6. I regularly poke fun at the folks around here - get a 1/4 inch of |

snow and they're off to the supermarket to stock up on bread and milk, while the schoolbusses stop running and the governor tells everyone to stay home.
But I'm still astonished at how the first snow in the snow belt catches so many unprepared - how they forget how to drive in the stuff after only six months. I learned to drive in the snows of central Illinois, and honed my skills on the ice sheets of northern Missouri, and I've never had any serious problems.
Well, now that I'm through feeling smug and superior, be careful out there - there's a lot of idiots on the road.
(had no snow here for two years, and I kind of miss it)
