2. I think it's something they made up
I think Bush (and Rove) thought it would play with the faithful and take the heat off for another 6 - 7 months. And maybe then, Maliki can tell us we can go home, and Bush can declare victory and bring the troops home.

6. Factor into that Talabani's comment about full agreement with
Iran and Cheney being summoned to Saudi Arabia...yes, it's a messy brew indeed!

But, I agree with you that it's being set up so that Maliki dis-invites the U.S. Al-Sadr's in the mix as well; demanding a 'timetable' and Maliki publicly stating June 07, along with the military and ISG giving a summer 2008 puts it on the calendar with some flexibility.

Meanwhile, we haven't heard much at all about Afghanistan (and Bush never even mentions it at all).

4. he's learned of the microsecond attention span of the media and
much of the public. It doesn't matter what you say - just shut them up, and in 6 months time, either no one will remember - or even if they do (and Russert shows videoclips), the questions will be softball...

And I am sure that some young blonde woman will disappear in six months, or OJ will suggest another book, etc that will dominate the airwaves and newspapers.

Am I cynical?
