What's the most outrageous thing you've heard a RWer say?
What's the most outrageous, worst thing you've heard from a conservative? Can be a politician, talk show host, or even a relative or someone you know.

I was listening to Jim Phillips (a semi-liberal talk show host here in Orlando), and some lady called in talking about her son who just returned from Iraq. She said that while we're at war, we should all "stand behind" the president, and should not criticize him. They got into a huge heated argument, and finally Jim pressed her and asked if people should be allowed to criticize the President during war. Her answer was an emphatic, resounding "No."

9. Hard to know where to start for this one
But a guy at work said, when the invasion of Iraq started, "We oughta blow up all those ragheads." This guy was in the military, so I cut him just a little bit of slack. But not much. I tried to explain to him that classifying all people of one race as good, bad, or indifferent was just as bad as saying that a person who has been in a situation where he had to seek help for depression is crazy. He did seek professional help after his first divorce. It happens to the best of us, but it was the only thing I could come up with at the time.

12. So many statements so little time....
I have probably heard more outrageous statements than the one I am about to mention, but this is the one that sticks with me. Perhaps because he wasn't mad or angry when he said it. Rather, he said it very matter of factly as though it were obvious:

"Stereotypes are true....that is why they are stereotypes"

I just stared at him with my mouth open (we were at work). The amazing thing is that he is hispanic. The temptation to rattle off a dozen different horrific stereotypes that would apply to him was almost overwhelming.

No lie. The really scary thing is, this guy didn't come across as stupid, otherwise. He was articulate, passionate, and focused; he could spell, punctuate, capitalize correctly, and had a solid grasp of the rules of grammer. He expressed complete thoughts and wrote in paragraphs rather than in sentence fragments. And was completely and totally screwed up in what he absolutely "knew" to be the truth. Freakish.

Totally, blessedly incurable. I'm not sure if liberalism leads to those other odious traits or if those traits lead one to become a liberal. It's mostly uncurable because it isn't a disease, it's an outlook on life that is more other centric, less me centric. It's hilarious to me that the rethugs think they have the spiritual angle because they convince the right wing kooks that they pray just as hard but when you look at basic spiritual tenets, it's the Democrats who have so many spiritually centered values.

23. It's not so much one outrageous thing, but a series of outrageous things...
I've worked with this colleague for nine years. I know she is a rapid GOP right-winger, so we avoided discussing politics. But for some strange reason after the election this month, she opened up with a rant criticizing Dems.

Her: The Dems will become appeasers. Just like what Chamberlain did with Hitler, we'll do with Saddam!
Me: But Saddam had no WMDs!
Her: He had them!
Me: So where are they?
Her: He transported them out of Iraq!
Me: Really? Where to?
Her: Syria!
Me: Where is the proof? The evidence?
Her: I don't know, but that's what he did!
Me: You mean to tell me that, with billions of $$$ in spy satellites in space, the US couldn't get one photo of Saddam transporting WMDs out of his country?
Her: He had them and he secretly transported them out of Iraq!
Me: You do know that he had, according to Bush's SOTU speech, over 1 million pounds of biological and chemical agents that he could use for WMDs?
Her: Yes, he had them!
Me: I like to know how anyone could transport a million pounds of anything without detection!
Her: I'm just proud that GW Bush is president!
Me: You do know about his family's relationship with the Saudis, don't you?
Her: That's just liberal propaganda!
Me: You do know that 15 of the 19 attackers on 9/11 carried Saudi passports, and that Salem bin Laden financed early business ventures of GW Bush, don't you?
etc...etc...etc

So it's not really only one thing, but how they can string along a series of stupid, outrageous remarks, usually loosely based around a single topic, that leave me exhausted in pointing out just how stupid and outrageous they really are!

That's right, Peyton Manning, a white man. Christ, he's in almost every commercial on tv.

Quite a few years ago, my borther-in-law and nephew were having an argument about black QBs. My brother-in-law asked the question of what team has ever won the Super Bowl with a black QB. He then said no NFL team won the Super Bowl with a black QB. I then said, "Funny, the Washington Redskins won the recent Super Bowl with a black QB. His name was Doug Williams."

That is insane on its face. For one thing, Islam is a religion. The only way a religion can take over the United States is if, say, someone used nefarious actions via electronic voting to install leaders who only cater to the 20 or so percent who are religiously insane and those people then went about trying to force the rest of us to believe in their particular brand of religion by denying rights to individuals who...

36. My pharmacist said that we should bomb the Hell out of North
Korea. Since when is killing the victims of a totalitarian regime an American thing to do? Since when do we approve of ethnic cleansing? But this is how right wingers think. Since Kim Il Jong's regime is like what they are trying to bring us here, you'd think that they would all be busting down the ticket counter at the airport trying to get there instead of talking about bombing them to smithereens.

The person who said this is a very financially successful RWer in my family. I asked him to confirm that statement several times -- it wasn't just a slip of the tongue. He thinks anyone representing a popular sentiment is an appropriate leader. Qualifications are meaningless.

I also think Limbaugh makes such statements daily, like, "it's arrogant to think humans can affect the climate" and "Michael J. Fox was just acting." And all his statements encouraging people to buy SUVs.

"Make the desert glow" is another one I've heard. I've heard some pretty atrocious things from radio talk show folks on the public airwaves too, even just between songs. And I do mean atrocious... as in, advocating mass atrocities like, "turn Baghdad into a sheet of glass," said casually, with guffaws. I prefer online streaming radio stations now.

That Jesus would bomb Iraq.

That John Kerry is the anti christ, (the signs were there apprently)

That Bush had done more for Humanity than any other human on earth.

That global warming is non existent.

That Poor people dont want a raise in the Minunum wage.

That the democrats have rigged every election getting dead people to vote and illegal immigrants to vote.

That there has been hardly any deaths in Iraq and its just a lie from the media.

That America has slipped further into destruction if we allow the Koran to be used to be sworn in on.

That Xmas will be banned along with the bible if thier is a democrat president in 2008

My personal favourite: Fox news should be banned along with olielly because they are so extreme to the left that they are communists. Another poster disagree and said "they are the most honest and open news channel and I tell all my friends to watch it"

From a right winger immediately after he told me that very, very, very few innocent civilians are being killed in Iraq. It shocked me because this guy looked like he REALLY believed what he was saying.

Or course, one of the most disappointing things I ever heard was from a former boss/former friend when he told me and a few other co-workers about how the "moon landing was a hoax". In fairness we have some equally and intentionally uninformed folks all sides. For example, I was walking to a campaign event for Pres Clinton in 1996 to which I and a friend had tickets. A lady who heard about the event on the radio had come to the area in hopes that she could score a ticket. As we walk she starts telling us how much she loves the President... and then... she asks "so how did he do?" We don't get her question, as he hasn't spoken yet and the question seemed to be about the speech. In response to our silence she continued "I mean how has he done as President? I haven't paid any attention and was just wondering how he is doing as President".... aye yi yi...

107. Oh, I heard more than a few in college.
It's "fun" to go to an evangelical Christian college when you're one of the most liberal students there. :eyes:

In chapel the day before the election in 1992:
"I'm not going to tell you how to vote, but if you vote for Clinton, you're voting for a murderer." This from the preacher, and it got worse from there.

Same election:
"You can't vote for Clinton because Gore is the Anti-Christ. He'll find a way to kill off Clinton and then take over the government and bring in the New World Order." That was the beginning of a ten minute long rant that got even more crazy after that.

In a philosophy class during a debate on abortion:
{crying} "I've marched! If you haven't marched for life, to protect those poor little babies, then you aren't pro-life! I've marched! You are all going to hell!" Then he just subsided into sobbing in his chair. Odd. It all started when I had the audacity to question why it was okay for the mothers to die in back alleyways (which he said they deserved) if it weren't okay for the babies to die.

In an American History class:
"If you really think it wasn't okay to nuke Japan in WWII, you hate America! How dare you?! Have you ever travelled? I was in the Marines, and I can tell you it's worse in other places. If you hate America so much, just leave!" We'd been having a class debate on the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and I had been saying that I was not okay with my government vaporizing people and that a demonstration would have at least given the Japanese governmnent a chance to surrender first. I called him a fascist, and he left the room.

Oh, there are many more . . .

That was recent. Comments that I remember from some years ago, when Tories ruled here:

"We should restrict the vote to people who would have had it before 1832" (i.e. rich males).

"Hitler made the mistake of invading other countries. He should have stuck with his work at home, dealing with the gypsies and the communists" (he didn't add 'and the Jews', probably because several of us present were Jewish).

"Oh, yes, I have heard about McCarthyism. It was a very good thing!"

And a VERY common one: "At least Thatcher is a strong leader!" To which a friend of mine replied, "Well, you can have a strong horse and it can still pull you off the edge of a cliff!"
