I watched it with my daughter on Thanksgiving, she said I grew up in a weird era. LOL!

5. One of my all time favorites...
And it's definitely on there (I spent the night before Thanksgiving watching it). Type WKRP and Thanksgiving into the search field, and you'll see it in 3 parts.

'As God as my witness; I thought turkeys could fly.' :)

6. That show was never put on DVD
In part because they have to get licensing for all of the rock music that was played on the show. It would be very expensive. There is a similar problem with the Wonder Years.

8. As a WKRP fan, I'm distressed to hear that we'll never have the pleasure
of enjoying that show in crystal-clear DVD format. :(

9. I've heard that
and they need to start acting on it now, every christmas I want to give that show (or even better receive it!!) but can't!!

What I wonder is why they have to get permission now, didn't they have to get permission when they first used the music on the show and wouldn't it be covered under some sort of copyright or licensing agreement from then?

25. As I understand it..
that license for the music was for a limited use and a limitied period. Before there were such things as DVD's (who knew?)

Now, the fees are so prohibitive (because the market is so lucrative) music intensive show are in trouble (I believe season two of Dawson's Creek was the last one with the origianl music.)

14. WKRP was quite the prognosticator, too
remember the episode where Mr. Carlson was asked by the "seemingly sane" religious group to stop playing a song?

And then, by the end of the episode, the righties felt that they had gotten an inch, and wanted a mile ... and Carlson grew enough balls to kick them out (so to speak) ... and, if I remember correctly, even his mother eventually was for getting rid of the jerks, despite the possibility of losing profits ...

Ah, but now, the media either doesn't have the balls, or they're getting the $$$ in their eyes ...

15. I remember that episode - it was GREAT!
It was entitled "Clean Up Radio Everywhere"

Pertinent information:

The guest stars were Richard Paul (Dr. Bob Halyers) and Ralph Manza
(Harvey Green)

Episode synopsis:

Dr. Bob Halyers, head of the organization Clean Up Radio Broadcasting (CURB), visits Mr. Carlson with a list of "obscene" songs that he wants the station to stop playing - or else.

Originally broadcast on April 12, 1981
Written by: Max Tash & Hugh Wilson
Directed by: Linda Day

18. LOL - Yeah, didn't they have an Ohio State Trooper in the broadcasting booth
with them who was administering a sobriety test?

Venus was getting drunker with every shot of liquor he consumed, but all that alcohol didn't faze Johnny Fever one iota.

Classic! :applause:

26. The problem with today's sitcoms is that they aren't funny
When was the last time anybody split their sides laughing at one of them?

I occasionally watched "Friends" when it was in prime time, as well as "Everybody Loves Raymond", "King of Queens" and "Frasier". They just didn't give me the side-splitters I got from watching shows like "WKRP".

A little slapstick would liven things up a bit!
