President's who did not swear on the Bible at their inaugurations |
|
In light of the Keith Ellison situation I found this noteworthy:
Three presidents who did not swear on a Bible at their inaugurations: Chester Arthur, Teddy Roosevelt and Calvin Coolidge.

Arthur and Coolidge didn't really have formal inaugurations. I wonder if TR or Silent Cal had bibles when sworn in for their second terms.

5. Franklin Pierce did not swear on the bible either |

Because of religious considerations Pierce affirmed rather than swore the Presidential oath of office.

6. Your right. Not to mention Thomas Jefferson re-wrote the Bible |
|
I cut and pasted that sentence just assuming Pierce was in the list. Now sure why he was left out on that page.
