To: Newt Gingrich From: Someone Sane
Dear Newt,
I understand you have problems with the 1st Amendment. Not surprised. Thanks to the 1st Amendment, people can call you on your stunning hypocrisy and absurd rhetoric. You ask us to surrender our freedom to win a "war" with people who allegedly "hate us for our freedom."
Sounds an awful lot like surrender to me.
No, Freedom of Speech isn't supposed to have an on/off switch. It is meant to be one of the founding principles of our republic, and the fact that you would suggest such a thing puts in doubt that you have any faith in, or loyalty to, the Constitution of this great nation of ours. In fact, some might even go so far as say that YOU are an Enemy of the State. It sounds like you're advocating a pretty dastardly plan of action there, Newt.
No, we're going to have to declare your plan to be out of the question. We'd like to keep our Freedom of Speech just the way it was written into the Constitution, thank you very much.
Though we realize that it no longer binds you, you once took an oath to uphold the Constitution and, in few of your recent comments, we have to question if you took those oaths seriously.
What's even better about our 1st Amendment, Newt, is the one thing you don't seem to understand. It allows people like you, anti-American, anti-liberty people like you, to stand up and announce exactly what kind of citizen you are. One that doesn't deserve to live in a country as great as this one. You are a black mark on the very ideals of America, a stain on the body politic.
So please check your Presidential ambitions at the door, Mr. Gingrich. Your chances have now left the building.
Sincerely,
A REAL American
