Swearing on a Bible once meant something to the homogenous group that it meant something to. What I want to see is the oath of office taken to swear on the assets of public officials taking the oath. If they don't honor the Constitution or whatever legislative body or document that they are supposed to honor, they will forfeit their assets, to be itemized in Schedules A, B, and C in a legal document that they have sworn on.
