Love that Tyler Jones of The College Democrats of Charleston Southern University zeroed in on stuff that Hunter's been trying to avoid talking about. Basically about how he's the equivalent to Duke Cunningham here in terms of his shenanigans with the same folks (MZM, ADCS, etc.) that got him in prison.

We need to have Hunter not get any free passes whereever he goes. Needs to have his campaign shut down at the beginning, and the PROPER news about his corruption should rise to the top of google instead of him running for president! Kudos Tyler! It's hard enough just to have those questions asked down here in San Diego, let alone someplace else like South Carolina!

U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., brought his budding presidential campaign to Charleston Southern University on Friday to speak about national, border and job security.

Allison Osman, the school's spokeswoman, said Hunter offered to make the presentation to gain experience with public forums and open question-and-answer sessions before officially announcing his run.

...

Charleston Southern students didn't hesitate to ask Hunter tough questions.

Tyler Jones, a senior and president of The College Democrats, asked him about campaign contributions he has received from defense contractor Brent Wilkes. Former U.S. Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham resigned in November after pleading guilty to tax evasion and accepting bribes, some of which came from alleged co-conspirator Wilkes.

Jones said he's concerned about Hunter's links to defense contractors who could be motivated by profit to remain in Iraq.

Hunter denied any inappropriate conduct.

I remember also when I went to school at Iowa that a popular t-shirt there was:

University of Iowa
Idaho City, Ohio

Also yesterday saw a window sticker on a car that said:

Universidad de Nuevo Mexico

Probably a similar thought there! :)

Sympathize with your "pet peeves"

5. He'll never get the nomination, IMHO.
Meanwhile, as long as his asswipe campaign continues, McCain and other rethug candidates look moderate in comparison to this idiot.

I say we need to knock him off as quickly as possible.

6. I'm selfish here in San Diego. I want him in JAIL too!
We've had too many corrupt *wipes as our reps here in north county of San Diego (Cunningham, Bilbray, Hunter, etc.). I'd like to see he or Bilbray get thrown out and a special election to replace one or both of these bastards soon so that we can get some real representation here for a change.

That's why I love making sure everyplace he goes, that he's constantly reminded of the crap he's been engaging in.

7. I'm seriously surprised to find that there's
a chapter of College Democrats at Charleston Southern...considering that they are actually Charleston BAPTIST College that changed its name some years ago to disguise its real mission.

Hunter hits S. Carolina to energize campaign

Speech focuses on national security
By Finlay Lewis
COPLEY NEWS SERVICE

December 2, 2006

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Bearing a stern warning about a burgeoning Chinese threat to America's national security, Rep. Duncan Hunter yesterday sought to jump-start his long-shot presidential campaign in a key state with a message built around signature issues that have been central to his political career.

...

At Charleston Southern University, the veteran of 26 years in the U.S. House found himself fielding politely posed but hostile queries from three members of the campus Young Democrats organization. While Hunter showed no sign of being thrown off balance, the quizzing may have been a surprise given Charleston Southern's political reputation and its self-described role as a Christian school.

The questions probed his ties to a defense contractor identified as a co-conspirator in the bribery case that sent former Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham to prison; suggested he was trying to cover up the Abu Ghraib prisoner-abuse scandal to avoid embarrassing San Diego-based Titan Corp., which had interpreters there; and claimed that a member of his Armed Services Committee staff had slipped a provision into a military authorizations bill that dismantled an inspector general's operation that was uncovering corruption in the Iraq reconstruction efforts.

While denying the implications of all three questions – and suggesting that the question about Cunningham had been written by the staff of a local Democratic congressman – Hunter, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, was calm and measured in his responses. As the session was wrapping up, he turned to the trio.

“I want to give you guys the last shot. Do you have anything left?” Hunter asked.

They didn't, and afterward he posed for a photo with Tyler Jones, president of the school's Young Democrats and the one who asked about Hunter's ties to Brent Wilkes, one of two contractors accused of having bribed Cunningham.

Responding to the question about Wilkes earlier, Hunter said: “When you open up the doors to a fundraiser and five or six or seven hundred folks come in, you don't have a crystal ball that tells which ones are going to have a problem five or 10 or 15 years off in the future.”
