"One of the things that's going to change dramatically will be the fact that for the first time in about six years we'll have some checks and balances," Reyes said at a news conference in El Paso. "The administration and the different agencies that work for the administration will see what I believe will be true oversight.
"And there will be real consequences that perhaps haven't been there the last six years," he added.
But Reyes indicated little desire to revisit past battles.
"I think our time is better spent looking at how we can be more effective, how we can be more accountable through oversight, in terms of what's going on in the Middle East and really other critical parts of the world as well."
