MEXICO: Another reporter in Veracruz found murdered

MEXICO: Another reporter in Veracruz found murdered

New York, December 1, 2006—The Committee to Protect Journalists said today it was investigating whether the shooting death of Adolfo Sánchez Guzmán was related to his work as reporter for the Mexican news Web site Orizaba en Vivo.

The journalist’s body was found yesterday on the banks of the Blanco river near Mendoza, 74 miles (120 kilometers) from Xalapa, capital of the southeastern state of Veracruz. He had been shot twice in the back of the head, and had bruises and stab wounds to the chest, a police source in Mendoza told CPJ. Nearby lay the body of another man, César Martínez López, who had also been shot in the head, the source said.

On November 21, Roberto Marcos García, another local reporter, was found shot to death near the city of Veracruz. Five other journalists have been killed in Mexico this year. CPJ has confirmed that one of the five journalists was slain in connection with his reporting. It continues to investigate the killings of the others.

4. Mexico is looking more like Iraq everyday, and we can thank our DoJ in large part for it.
There's some really horrific stuff going on, and according to the Observer article, House of Death, Alberto Gonzales not only sanctions it, but our tax dollars actually financed a complete psycho who was killing innocent Mexicans to the tune of over $200K, even when our DoJ KNEW he was gruesomely murdering people!

Party of moral values -- what a sick, sick joke.

11. quelle surprise
and yet we hear a few people here that "those protests were advocating violence, they hurt their own cause, whaddya want, a revolution? blah, blah, blah..." well, guess what, the violence is there, and has been there, and will continue to be there -- until they the people get up and STOP IT. silence=acceptance=death. get it? got it? good. and sometimes there's people who can only speak one language, so sometimes you have to break the silence in kind to get them to listen... and that's all i need to say about that.

12. Thank you for the KR's and concerned replies, good people.
There is a lot of eye-opening data at the CPJ link about the US as well.
They keep records on the murdered, the missing and the imprisoned. (See the archives partway down the index page.)

We are talking about real journalists and camera men. Not the expensively manicured and blow-dried editors and teleprompt readers and vacuous WH stenographers in the nice safe corporate cable news environs in Atlanta and New York.

13. Will they run out of reporters who will report on the government first,
or people who are willing to stoop low enough to harm someone for revealing the truth about an oppressive goverment?

This is such sad news, but we really need to know.

Thank you, chill_wind.
