Poll question: Who's the most annoying (non-Faux) TV "news" personality?
My first inclination was to say Glenn Beck, but at least there's not much doubt about what he is. It's someone who pretends to be fair and balanced, i.e. Wolf Blitzer, that I really can't stand.
What non-Fox person (since just about all of them would qualify) makes your flesh crawl the most?

1. OMG a rogues' gallery
I had to put Noron, or is it Whora O'Donnell since I watch MSNBC the most
Of course , if I watched her, I'm sure Paula would be right up there. Nora however, is shrill, plus the horse laugh...

17. He got my vote too - I can't stand his smug, smirking little
frat-boy face and his condescending, arrogant tone. He makes me think of a young GWB (he also has that bloated look of someone who overindulges regularly.)

I'd like to choke him with a bow-tie.

3. I was going to say all of the above, but Tucker wins hands down.
And the reason is - even though Jon Stewart pointed out what a loser he is, he still continues to be on TV.

7. To be "annoyed" I'd have to watch them. That eliminates Beck right off the bat.
Edited on Sun Dec-03-06 03:20 PM by TahitiNut
It also eliminates Zahn, Carlson, Lauer, and Couric. I just turn the channel and refuse to tolerate these frauds for even a moment. Thus, I save myself any annoyance on their account. Of the remainder, I'd have to say Whora O'Downer ... whom I only avoid when she's anchoring. When she's brought on for a report, I grit my teeth in annoyance.

She's quite possibly the least intellectualy acute of them all, but Blitzer gives her a run for the Vacuous Award.

28. CNN Headline News was once quite neutral and without commentary
It was the closest thing to a BBC newscast we had, I thought. In the years when I traveled for business, that was my "morning show" in the motel/hotel ... and what I'd put on sleep-timer to go to sleep. No more. No way. It's totally disgusting anymore.

14. Tucker because he is often childishly unprofessional. He brings personalities into issues.
The thing that bugs me the most about Tucker is that his insecurity is so transparent and obviously dictates his side on various issues. Listen to him sometime. He is constantly making personal observations that are obviously based on some past slight by someone involved in the issue at question and lets it color his opinion even though it has nothing to do with the actual issue.

A typical "insightly" discussion of issues on Tucker's show goes something like this:

Guest: "Nancy Pelosi is going to push for bipartisan support for (put issue here)."

Tucker: "Oh, Nancy Pelosi is rude and stuck-up. She's just looking to get headlines. Nobody likes Pelosi so this is deservedly going nowhere."

Guest: "Meanwhile, Bill Frist wants to block any attempt to bring (put bill here) to a floor vote in the Senate."

Tucker: "Oh, Bill is one of the nicest, most approachable guys in the senate. I hope he succeeds. He's just a great guy."

Tweety does this a lot as well. I just want to pull my hair out when I hear this crap. It is so unprofessional and childish. Who cares if Pelosi or whoever ignored you once. Get over it!

Beck? Does anyone even watch that jerk? I probably would vote for him except I have never watched his show (the Youtube videos are more than enough of him for me).

15. True. He is a petulant little bird-beeked jackass....
That he still has an on-air job boggles the mind, considering he's near the bottom in ratings. (I think Beck is lower).

19. That's a perfect description of him -
and now he's got some smug little frat brother sidekick to play off of. I knew so many guys like this in college - they acted so superior, but they were really just whiney, insecure little weasels. His lack of professionalism is just astounding for someone with a prime time news slot.

My 2 favorite examples of her stupidity.

1 Asking a NASA expert if the Columbia Disaster might be the work of terrorists. :silly:

2 Asking Craig Crawford "What about Hillary Clinton?" when he said that there were no incumbent presidents or vice presidents running for the first time since 1952. :dunce:

Yes!

If I did, Katie would probably get my vote if for no other reason than that she called Cindy an extremist long after most Americans thought Iraq was a bad idea.

27. Keith Olbermann defended Nora when he was blogging on firedoglake
http://www.firedoglake.com/2006/11/05/fdl-book-salon-welcomes-keith-olbermann-2/#comments

Hi Keith, welcome to the ‘lake. I’m curious why you seem to be the only newsguy that has any common sense. Do emails to reporters and/or their bosses really make any difference? What is the best way to “educate” people like “Tweety” (Hardball) and “Noron” O’Donnell, so they’ll stop being nothing more than mouthpieces for the current administration?

Answer from KO:

First, I must defend Norah. The first week I came back to MSNBC in March, 2003, she called me from the DC and suggested we should do a NIGHTLY segment quoting O’Reilly’s falsehoods and stupidities. I know her sympathies are questioned in your community (and others) but I think she deserves more credit than she gets. As to emails to the on-air types: a) they generally don’t get to read them, because b) there’s so little time to read them. Management, since it does little but wring its hands no matter what he business nor environment, has plenty of time to read. Be cordial, individual, and brief. Remember with what dismissiveness we all rightly treated the spam-mailing of the FCC over Janet Jackson.

********************

I remember reading he said something nice about her so I looked it up. She drives me nuts (not wild about her style) but I'm willing to cut her some slack (not to say I buy everything she says) because I admire Olbermann and he knows her better than I do.
