Rep Moran: "Not Only Did Bush Know Webb's Son Almost Killed-He Was Warned To Be Sensitive About It"
Edited on Sun Dec-03-06 09:55 PM by kpete
Bush DID KNOW that Webb's son was almost killed!
by hcc in VA
Sun Dec 03, 2006 at 05:43:48 PM PST
.............

....... Could Bush possibly have known about the incident that Jim Webb's son's vehicle was next to another military vehicle that was attacked which resulted in the death of 3 marines a few weeks ago in Iraq?

Congressman Jim Moran (D-Va 8th district)without hesitation:

"Not only did Bush know about it, he was specifically briefed on the incident before meeting with Webb, and was cautioned to be extra sensitive in speaking with Webb about his son."

Just to make sure, I said: "Wow, I guess not too many people know about this," and he said: "That's right they don't, but I know it's true, and there are lots of things people don't know about that would surprise them"

1. Why would he care about being sensitive?
Didn't he once tell a grieving parent after the parent remarked about what a wonderful life her son would've had, "How would you know if he would've had a wonderful life?" I suspect had Shrubous Boobious, visted more grieving families, he would been slugged more times.

watching the talking heads babble on about this, with, sad to say the "democratic" voices joining in with the "Webb was out of line" refrain ...

This guy is SO clearly a jerk, that even if he meant to be genuine in asking about Webbs son, he probably came off as being the jerk he is ...

Like Stephanie Miller said, it's kind of like when Tony Soprano asks how your family is. Bush can have Webb's son sent to any combat zone in Iraq, and he probably will.

90. That sounds like what King David did,
when he had the hots for Uriah's wife Bathsheba. He sent Uriah to the front lines where he was sure to be killed (and he was).

Re >>Like Stephanie Miller said, it's kind of like when Tony Soprano asks how your family is. Bush can have Webb's son sent to any combat zone in Iraq, and he probably will.<<

King David was ultimately forgiven, but it took some doing. And Shrubbie ain't no King David!

10. I am a constituent of Cong. Moran
He is a great guy, with a great record, and a fighter too, like Webb. The WaPo hates Moran and has tried to smear him numerous times, and insulted his constituents in the process (are you people idiots to keep voting him in?, etc., etc.) Moran is in a safe district and worked hard for Webb.

I emailed his website tonight to tell him what was reported at dkos and asked him to go on record if in fact he said this.

59. Gerrymandering -- Concentrate and dilute
A major reason for the 8th to be so safe is because it is gerrymandered to collect as many of the Dems in Northern Va as possible. There are three Congressional districts in Fairfax County, not only that, the Hunter Mill County Supervisor district has three Congressional districts. We could take two of those Congressional seats instead of just one if the state legislature was populated with more Dems.

The state legislature elections are next year. It is very important for Virginia Dems throughout the state to vote in the 2007 general election. We need to control the state when the redistricting happens. Northern Virginia needs two Democratic Congressmen to accurately represent the population of the area. This can only happen if the General Assembly is blue.

16. He delights in this stuff like any true sociopath
he mocks people he has sentenced to death...

(This is rhetorical)

What kind of individual mocks someone they have sentenced to death as part of their duties a Governor

One Sick Fuck !

Republican presidential candidate Gary Bauer criticized Gov. George W. Bush Tuesday for making fun of an executed Texas woman in an interview Bush gave to Talk magazine.

"I think it is nothing short of unbelievable that the governor of a major state running for president thought it was acceptable to mock a woman he decided to put to death," Bauer said of Bush.

Bush is portrayed in Talk as ridiculing pickax killer Karla Faye Tucker of Houston for an interview she did with CNN broadcaster Larry King shortly before she was executed last year. Just before her execution date, Tucker appealed for clemency on the grounds that she had become a born-again Christian.

" `Please,' Bush whimpers, his lips pursed in mock desperation, `don't kill me,' "

"I would question his ability to grasp reality. And if his actions revealed an unacknowledged – even sadistic – indifference to human suffering, wrapped in pious claims of compassion, I would worry about the safety of the people whose lives he touched."

person of stature, deserved or not, has a thing called a "Foley file."

That file is probably on computer, these days, but years ago it was a set of 3"x5" note cards with everybody who was anybody having at least one card with things like name-with phonetic spelling-marital status, spouse's age, number, sex, and ages of kids, trophies, awards won, etc, so the glad hander could review, or have reviewed for him, anyone he was meeting and carry on a conversation with that person as though they were much better acquainted than was actually true.

Even one time visitors had a brief worked up on them so the kisser would never be embarrassed and the intended victim went away thinking he was held in high esteem-never know when you need that odd vote.
As a one time successful sales person, I know that good sales people have such a file. Really hot dog used car salesmen also have such a file, often running into thousands of entries.

My point is that there is no doubt junior has such a file, so he knew, in pretty good detail, everything worth knowing about Webb and his family.

That tells me the whole exchange was meant to intimidate Webb. Never subtle, * would have been thrilled to do his number on Webb, even if only his characteristic arrogant "gotcha."

Webb is too much a gentleman to actually punch the little bastard so he was never in any danger.
There is also the team of secret service agents peering through gunports in the walls so junior's ass is always covered.

That is one sick fuck of a family and pappy was, after all, the originator of "bushspeak," indicating that junior has had the wonderful inheritance of the very worst from both sides.

Donald Rumsfeld sending a "leaked" memo, and now the hearsay of this exchange with Webb.

While it could have happened, doesn't something seem a bit contrived? A bit exagerrated?

Also, Newsweek portrays James Baker and George Bush Sr. as the saviors who are
coming to the rescue?

Please. Who's rescue other than their own?

33. If anyone can get a statement HCC can.
He isn't shy about asking questions like that.

Jim Moran spoke to us about Jim Webb turning the Senate Blue and how good that was for the House. With both houses blue in the legislative branch, the proposed bills can actually get passed and sent to the POTUS. They want to write veto proof bills. Last year, (or last term, I'm not sure which he meant) Their first meeting was Jan 3 and then Congress got the entire month of January off. (HCC asked, "Did we pay you for that month?" Everyone laughed.) This year, The House will be working during January instead of taking bribe trips with lobbyists.

The talk covered everything except the economy. Later, when the crowd thinned out, I tried to bring up that subject as I have been impacted by competition from foreign labor sources. Dropping from a tech salary to minumum wage is painful, but, who is going to hire a 55 year old woman when they can hire a 24 year old man? Thanks to the high H1-b quotas there is an ample and growing supply of young men. Those quotas don't indicate how many visa holders there are, the quotas are how many additional people come here each year. Most foreign workers eventually go home and take their disposable income with them.
Unfortunately, HCC cut me off before I could even get my comment out. High work-visa quotas may be good for big business, but Democrats are supposed to be champions for the common person. Fewer Americans will major in fields where there is a shortage of job openings and eventually the shortage of American technical talent will be real.

35. My husband's tech class enrollments have dropped steadily...
You're absolutely right when you say, "Fewer Americans will major in fields where there is a shortage of job openings and eventually the shortage of American technical talent will be real."

My husband teaches Computer Information Systems courses at the local community college. When he started, over 15 years ago, his classes were full to overflowing with people who already had BA's and who wanted to either change careers or upgrade their skills. Now he and his departmental colleagues are barely scraping by with minimum enrollments and some under-enrolled classes.

Potential quality students aren't stupid -- they read the papers and know about outsourcing just like the rest of us.

Conforming our foreign and domestic policies to the desires of mega-corporations isn't doing actual Americans any good.

Hekate

is...

"Mr. President, as you know, my son was almost killed last week serving his country in Iraq, a war that you started, while your daughters were apparently partying and running around naked down in Argentina. That's the difference between Democrats and Republicans these days, and that's why I left the Republican party and rejoined the Democrats.

I think a lot of other people should too."

If he had said that, the MSM wouldn't have ever mentioned the encounter, but the look on chimpy's face would have been priceless.

51. Its unforgivable for the Commander in Chief to treat a father like this who is clearly distraught
and worried about his child's safety in a war zone. He's the reason Jim Webb's son is in harm's way after all and the least he could do is treat the Webb family with some measure of respect. Its also quite small and juvenile of him to allow his political differences with Jim Webb to supersede common courtesy and manners. This is really crass behavior. The Webb family is owed an apology.

I remember Bill Clinton relating an experience to Larry King last summer about meeting with families of fallen soldiers. It was shortly after the Blackhawk Down incident I believe and a man whose son had died in Somalia requested a meeting with Clinton. Bill Clinton said he knew the father was going to let him have it and that it would be really hard to listen to the dressing down he would surely receive from him, but he said he owed it to that father to stand there and take whatever that father wanted to dish out because it was his decision that lead to the death of the man's son. Quite a stark difference between Clinton's handling of military families and Bush's. Bush has a lot to learn about how to treat his fellow human beings.

72. Absolutely. Great post.
There are so many things wrong with the way * responded to Webb, and your post explains it well. Clinton's reaction, while admirable is NO LESS THAN I EXPECT from our President.

The * reaction makes me experience a huge gamut of emotions, ranging from anger and fury, to sadness, horror and shame. As bad as I thought he was in 2000, I would never have believed that this man would be able to plumb the depths of moral bankruptcy as he has. Almost daily a new low is revealed.

I don't think they will report it unless they report postings on KOS and DU.

Edited on Mon Dec-04-06 12:12 PM by Miss Chybil
"How's your boy?" is insensitive. Don't get it. I'm sorry.

On edit:

Nevermind... I forgot about Bush's follow-up of "That's not what I asked you..." Yes. He's a jerk. Nothing new.

58. I remember what Bush said after Paul Wellstone death:
~"Everybody that loved him will miss him".

Ambiguous statements like that when people are in grief are callous at best.

81. he said that?! oh, he was probably chortling with glee at his own cleverness
I've noticed that Bush absolutely LOVES putting one over on people, when they are too sad or frightened to call him on it. Like that "hanging" comment during the MLK painting dedication.

86. Either that or asking him about his son was the attempt to be sensitive...
maybe that's what pissed him off. He made a crude, malformed attempt to be sensitive and blew it.

83. Okay, NOW I'm paying attention. Can someone recap for me?
All I know is that the Presider and Sen-elect Webb exchanged some words over Webb's son. Can someone please tell me exactly what words were exchanged, where, and when?

I'm paying attention now because suddenly it sounds to me as if the President made a very public and very obvious threat against the Senator-elect's son, and I would like to be disabused of that idea.

Thank you.

87. Here is the exchange.
Webb showed up for the traditional White House reception for incoming senators, but refused to shake Bush's hand and avoided Bush.

Even so, Bush, having been told about Webb's son, sought out Webb and asked him, by way of small talk, "So, how's your boy doing?"

Webb replied "I'd like to get them out of Iraq, Mr. President."

Bush replied, "That's not what I asked you. How's your boy?"
He repeated.

Webb replied coldly "That's between me and my boy, Mr. President" and walked away.

Webb also said he was so angered by the exchange he was "tempted to slug" the president.

89. i heard al franken talking about that bush/webb exchange today
and he was looking at it from the perspective that bush was a dick from the point where he SHOULD have said to webb (after webb said he wants to get them home) things to the effect of: i understand, so do i, we'll get them home as soon as possible, etc. franken's point was that fuckhead should have said some civil remark, comment, etc.

so, while everyone is groaning about webb on the tv (calling him a loose cannon or whatever) it is, in fact, the fuckhead that made the nasty turn in conversation -- not the "loose cannon"

but, as i'm writing this, i'm thinking these polite remarks never occurred to the fool on the hill, and if they did occur to him they would be a pack of lies.

and even though he is proficient at lying to people all the time, he might not have been in the mood to lie (especially to be nice. that would be unheard of for him)

84. Chimpy is not capable of being sensitive. His "how's your
boy" was an attempt at being what he thinks of as "sensitive." When it comes to social skills, he is sorely lacking.

93. George W. Bush may have thought that he was being careful
... in talking about Webb's son. He didn't know that Webb would quickly take offense.

While I have the lowest opinion of Bush for other reasons, I'm unconvinced that he was trying to be rude in this case.
