Heard of Demetrius Van Crocker? White reich wing extremist, planned to blow up Congress:
Edited on Sun Dec-03-06 10:21 PM by originalpckelly
"This didn't even make the front page of the local paper. What War on Terror are we fighting? Um…Mainsteam media? Is it only important to cover if the terrorist in question has a "foreign" name?

Imagine, for a moment, what would have happened if a Muslim extremist with an apparent hatred of the American government had been apprehended in, say, Tennessee, and charged with plotting to blow up Congress with a briefcase bomb.

Do you suppose that the case would then be relegated to the back pages of the local papers? Do you suppose it would go unmentioned by the 101st Keyboard Kommandos in their ever-vigilant search for proof that the War on Terror is right here in our midst?

Of course not. You can be certain Fox News would have splashed the case across its broadcasts, and Michelle Malkin and Little Green Footballs would have been all over it.

Now consider the case of Demetrius "Van" Crocker, who just happens to be a white right-wing extremist:

Demetrius "Van" Crocker of McKenzie, convicted in April of attempting to obtain a chemical weapon and possession of stolen explosives, was sentenced to 30 years in prison Tuesday by U.S. District Judge James Todd in Jackson.

Crocker, who told undercover FBI agents of his desire to explode a briefcase bomb while Congress was in session, was found guilty by a jury in about 90 minutes in April.

The 40-year-old farmhand and father of two was convicted of accepting what he thought were ingredients to make Sarin nerve gas and a block of C-4 explosive from undercover agents in October 2004. Read on…"

"Three people linked to white supremacist and anti-government groups are in custody. At least one weapon of mass destruction - a sodium cyanide bomb capable of delivering a deadly gas cloud - has been seized in the Tyler area.

Investigators have seized at least 100 other bombs, bomb components, machine guns, 500,000 rounds of ammunition and chemical agents. But the government also found some chilling personal documents indicating that unknown co-conspirators may still be free to carry out what appeared to be an advanced plot. And, authorities familiar with the case say more potentially deadly cyanide bombs may be in circulation."

(I tried to google this, and Neiwert's blog was the only useful hit I got.)

But hey, did you hear about what Britney Spears did ?

Florida Man Sentenced in Bomb Plot

Posted: July 12, 2004

Right-wing extremist Stephen John Jordi has been sentenced to five years in federal prison after being convicted for plotting to blow up gay bars, abortion clinics and churches. Authorities say Jordi had hoped to emulate alleged bomber Eric Rudolph after the latter's May 2003 arrest.

The sentence was handed down on July 8, 2004, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, by U.S. District Judge James Cohn. Judge Cohn rejected prosecutors' request that Jordi be sentenced under a federal terrorism law and instead gave Jordi the minimum penalty.

Shhh! Police score anti-terror raid success

It looks like police have undertaken their first successful anti-terror raid of recent times and there's not a Mosque or a Muslim in sight:

"....the largest haul of chemicals of its kind discovered in someone's home in the country." - Burnley Citizen

"Police sealed off the home of Robert Cottage in Talbot Street, Colne, after storming the address and discovering chemical components that could be used to make explosives." - Lancashire Telegraph

"The home of another man charged with similar offences contained a rocket launcher and a nuclear biological suit...." - Socialist Worker

The chemicals were found at the home of an apparently lapsed British National Party member, as opposed to the home of a Muslim, so no front page national newspaper headlines for the discovery of the largest haul of chemicals ever found in this country.

11. wasn't there another one?
I recall another right-wing type in recent years being caught with a garage full of explosives and military hardware (bazookas, etc)...I assume this must be a different one, since the Crocker articles don't mention the weaponry. That story also disappeared immediately.

I wonder why? Isn't a plot to blow up Congress a big deal?
