Near Total Media Blackout - Fringe RW'er tries to blow up Congress
Tenn. Federal authorities announced today that a white supremacist was sentenced to 30 years in prison for attempting to acquire nerve gas and explosives in a plot to destroy government buildings.

Demetrius Van Crocker, a farmhand from McKenzie in West Tennessee, was arrested in 2004 after he tried to buy the weapons from undercover federal agents.

The 40-year-old divorced father of two told agents his dream was to set off a dirty bomb in Washington D-C while the House and the Senate were in session.

A federal jury convicted Crocker in April of five charges of attempting to acquire chemical weapons and stolen explosives with intent to harm individuals or damage a building.

...

Crocker also told an agent he wanted a helicopter license so he could spray or bomb black neighborhoods in Jackson with poison gas and spike drugs with poison to kill black people.

37. But this sad bastard isn't a terrorist either, really. He's crazy.
Or at least if the description of his ambitions is correct, he's crazy. No proper terrorist would have such diffuse, unrealistic "goals". Those're the kind of loose, grandiose, unfocused animosities you get from someone who's suffering from paranoid schizophrenia.

His sentence should have been custody in a secure asylum, not a regular prison. But that wouldn't help out the careers of our intrepid Homeland Security drones, would it.

38. I doubt it.
The only useful thing he had actually "acquired" was from FBI agents, which is hardly the same as actually acquiring anything. Replying to someone PMing you on your racist forum, telling you they can help you get things you need isn't quite the same as doing all the legwork yourself. I don't see any evidence of an actual threat, just a potential one.

16. A similar story in the UK
that also involved far-right activists and strangely never hit the mass media:

http://www.pendletoday.co.uk/ViewArticle2.aspx?SectionID=8&ArticleID=1806619

"TWO Pendle men have appeared before Pennine magistrates accused of having "a master plan" after what is believed to be a record haul of chemicals used in making home-made bombs was found in Colne."

<snip>

"The 22 chemical components recovered by police are believed to be the largest haul ever found at a house in this country."

<snip>

"...search of Jackson's home had uncovered rocket launchers, chemicals, BNP literature and a nuclear biological suit."

And I keep telling people that we're not terrorist sympathizers.

And I would never claim that the Republicans are terrorist sympathizers, either.

Mainly because they're not sympathizers but actually terrorists.

35. K&R - here's what I sent to my email list (only half of the are "choir"
the other half are freeper types we love to bombard)

They finally catch an ACTUAL terrorist, back in 2004. Trying to buy stuff to blow up Congress.

Patriot Act help with this? NOPE
How bout those wiretaps? NOPE
Bombing the crap out of some other country? NOPE
Spending Billions per month? NOPE

Just good old fashioned police work by the FBI, not even Homeland Security (aka Big Brother)

But wait a second you say, you never saw anything about this on the news? No Breaking headlines? No White House press conference? No ominous musical score on FAUX news to remind you to be afraid while they continued to prop up this failed misAdministration?

WELL OF COURSE YOU DIDN'T

You see, it was a WHITE guy - one of those Right Wing, NASCAR loving, wife beating good old fashioned Gawd-fearing Americans from Tennessee. No swarthy guy with a beard and an accent, no Koran in his hip pocket, illegally here by getting sponsored by one of those left leaning Hate America first groups or slipping through a porous border. OMG, after all those years of telling us that the homos were the root of all evil and mayhem in the world - this guy didn't even have the decency to be a big old queer - and a divorced one at that, wonder who is responsible for destroying the sanctity of his marriage? Just one more straight boy heading to prison where, who knows, he might finally get to find out what's behind some of those deep dark fantasies that made him loudly make sure everyone knew how straight he was.

And once again, every single thing about this guy, the arrest and the lack of reporting points out how utterly and completely wrong Bush has been - the reverse Midas touch - every single thing he touches turns to shit.
