Hopefully not my last post at Democratic Underground...
Will Democracy survive without all the elements of the Bill of Rights in America? Will you survive in a police state? Do you believe Net Neutrality is important? When do you begin to speak out against oppression? Is Big Brother simply watching or are governmental agencies finally interfering with free speech and other types of legal anti-war protests? How many Americans will die today to protect freedom? How many have died to defend these freedoms since 1776?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKDHjKizKaA

I apologize for the production glitches in the preceding link. There appears to be no way to repair or re-create the short movie or any other online media of this type at this time. With a multitude of increasingly odd computer, internet and financial issues this might well be the last movie I ever post at DU. If aspects of my communications and banking remain impaired or like in the very recent past totally suspended, I have one last message for those who think these issues will frighten me into submission or stop my efforts to protect liberty in America. Listen closely the the words of a song at these links and you'll hear my attitude shining through the lyrics.

There is no reason for any governmental agency to suppress free speech or any type of peaceful protest. Exchange and expression of ideas is the cornerstone of freedom. Our Founders risked everything of Earthly value to provide the freedom many Americans still take for granted. Not only soldiers in the American Revolution but also all U.S. troops that die in combat believe they are paying that ultimate price to protect freedom. Oppression will only "survive" if good people remain silent while cowering in fear. We have nothing to fear but fear itself. There is no justification for any governmental policing agency to play politics or advance one political party over another online or anywhere else. Although my Windows Movie-Maker software is locked and cannot be removed, used, deleted or otherwise replaced, I can still run an old-fashioned printing press and will "survive." Will you survive after the internet falls under control of gigantic corporations? Can the middle class survive as an uncaring government allows fuel prices to soar while exporting jobs in an effort to serve the corporations? Will your ideas survive if no one is allowed to view or share them?

Friedrich Gustav Emil Martin Niemöller was a prominent German anti-Nazi theologian and Lutheran pastor. He is best known as the author of the poem First they came for the Communists.

Als die Nazis die Kommunisten holten,
habe ich geschwiegen;
ich war ja kein Kommunist.

Als sie die Sozialdemokraten einsperrten,
habe ich geschwiegen;
ich war ja kein Sozialdemokrat.

Als sie die Gewerkschafter holten,
habe ich nicht protestiert;
ich war ja kein Gewerkschafter.

Als sie mich holten,
gab es keinen mehr, der protestieren konnte.

When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.

When they locked up the social democrats,
I did not speak out;
I was not a social democrat.

When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.

When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

1. thanks for the fastest 6 (SIX) votes, I've ever received at DU...
I knew I could count on you people to stand up for freedom and democracy. It has been an honor to post, recommend and read ideas offered at this site. I am truly touched by your patriotism and sense of justice. Thank you.

2. wow, what a coincidence! My email finally started working again...
I can offer some great ideas on ways to stop junk-mail from arriving at your inbox. In fact, I've learned ways to keep ALL email from arriving. BTW, if NSA, ever makes it very clear that they are monitoring or controlling your online activity, try to refrain from making personal comments about the mental and sexual capabilities of agents involved in the investigation. Highly personal comments tend to piss them off. They can actually read keystrokes and see anything that your screen displays, if they so desire.

3. Incrfedibly powerful
I do have to say, tho, that I don't get Feingold's image in there -- hes' great, but he's not the only one. And he's NOT our savior. No one is; no one can be. We have to do this ourselves.

But it's an absolutely incredible montage, set to one of my all time favorite songs. DYNAMITE!

6. Morgan, what I find great about your post is that I get to disagree with it...
and your opinions about Russ, the FIRST patriot in power to stand up for the Bill of Rights when U.S.A. Patriot Act 1 went into effect. He stood alone back then on the Senate Floor. While I might not agree wil all your opinions, I will stand up for your right to express them and so will Feingold. I do agree that if we stand alone, all is lost.

12. You're not disagreeing with my opinions about russ --
I stated no opinions about Russ but instead about your work. I said I didn't understand the angelic treatment (which I found offensive, frankly); I didn't understand him being singled out, which I also found offensive since there have been a few Dems who've tried to stand up (as well as too many who haven't).

But here you've offered and explanation and context which are missing in your work, and sorely needed I might add. You've now at least explained to me, but the work still suffers because of the lack of it. I consider myself very well informed, but I'd FORGOTTEN Russ "stood alone back then on the Senate Floor." Do you believe ALL your viewers will remember if they even ever knew that? It ends up looking like adolescent brand of hero worship, and neither cool, warranted (again, without the context), nor logical. (I really thought it was a pre-emptive Russ-for-Pres campaign spot on your part, except that he said he's not running.)

You seem not just indifferent but hostile to a valid observation that showed a weak spot in an otherwise very powerful presentation.

19. I'm sorry you feel my comments are "hostile" but as I said before...
I will rise to your defense if anyone ever tries to inhibit your presentation of assumptions, no matter how wrong they may appear to me. Aside from being the first and sole defender of the 4th Amendment, Russ Feingold has consistently lead the charge on those who are attempting to dismantle our Constitution. BTW, I feel absolutely no malice toward you or your posts.

13. yep Sydnie, I knew you'd like it because of where you live...
Massachusetts is full of not only subversive ideas on free speech but also anti-corporate sentiment and it appears these outlandish notions have very early roots in your home state.

Is it tea-time yet?

n 1773, Britain's East India Company was sitting on large stocks of tea that it could not sell in England. It was on the verge of bankruptcy. In an effort to save it, the government passed the Tea Act of 1773, which gave the company the right to export its merchandise directly to the colonies without paying any of the regular taxes that were imposed on the colonial merchants, who had traditionally served as the middlemen in such transactions. With these privileges, the company could undersell American merchants and monopolize the colonial tea trade. The act proved inflammatory for several reasons. First, it angered influential colonial merchants, who feared being replaced and bankrupted by a powerful monopoly. The East India Company's decision to grant franchises to certain American merchants for the sale of their tea created further resentments among those excluded from this lucrative trade. More important, however, the Tea Act revived American passions about the issue of taxation without representation. The law provided no new tax on tea. Lord North assumed that most colonists would welcome the new law because it would reduce the price of tea to consumers by removing the middlemen. But the colonists responded by boycotting tea. Unlike earlier protests, this boycott mobilized large segments of the population. It also helped link the colonies together in a common experience of mass popular protest. Particularly important to the movement were the activities of colonial women, who were one of the principal consumers of tea and now became the leaders of the effort to the boycott.

Various colonies made plans to prevent the East India Company from landing its cargoes in colonial ports. In ports other than Boston, agents of the company were "persuaded" to resign, and new shipments of tea were either returned to England or warehoused. In Boston, the agents refused to resign and, with the support of the royal governor, preparations were made to land incoming cargoes regardless of opposition. After failing to turn back the three ships in the harbor, local patriots led by Samuel Adams staged a spectacular drama. On the evening of December 16, 1773, three companies of fifty men each, masquerading as Mohawk Indians, passed through a tremendous crowd of spectators, went aboard the three ships, broke open the tea chests, and heaved them into the harbor.As the electrifying news of the Boston "tea party" spread, other seaports followed the example and staged similar acts of resistance of their own.'

I don't care how cold it is up there, right now... I sure miss living in Cape Cod.

14. "Party On The Mothership"
About 30 years ago (damn, was it really that long ago? ) a friend of mine decided to have a party on the Tea Party ship. (They rent it out for private functions too) She rented the boat and the museum and sent out invitations to the "Party On The Mothership" party. Not being a native to the area, but recently having arrived, I was thrilled with her idea for the party and went with bells on. I had never been to the ship before (it was on my list of things to visit, but I was still in the process of visiting all the historic sites in the North end, and hadn't made it that far out yet), and remember it with such excitement and reverence too.

It was quite an interesting night. It started out quiet enough, until enough enough alcohol had been consumed. Once we reached the height of the evening, the tea boxes were flying off the boat. (For those that have not been, they have boxes tethered to the boat that visitors can throw into the water) We sort of did our own reenactment, with feather headdresses and all.

I will never forget that night and I will never forget that it was then and always will be "The Mothership" for that infamous Massachusetts attitude.

Thanks for bringing back such warm memories for me.

16. Is the "Mother Ship" in Boston?
I've never seen it but as a child I remember wandering around on a replica of the Mayflower in Plymouth Harbor. Plymouth has a nice energy but Onsett Beach was where my most recent fond memories formed. As for drinking, St. Patrick's Day in Boston is a great place to experience loss of memory or driver's license if one tries driving home to Onsett Beach after the festivities but I guess we got lucky.

27. Not the Mayflower
but a replica of one of the ships used for the Tea Party (the Beaver). The Mothership for rebellion as opposed to the Mother Ship we arrived in ...

On November 27, 1773, three ships from the East India Co., named the Dartmouth, Eleanor and the Beaver, loaded with tea landed at Boston and were prevented from unloading their cargo. Fearing that the tea would be seized for failure to pay customs duties, and eventually become available for sale, something had to be done. Demanding that the tea be returned to where it came from or face retribution, the Sons of Liberty, led by Samuel Adams began to meet to determine the fate of the three cargo ships in the Boston harbor.

On the cold evening of December 16, 1773, a large band of patriots, disguised as Mohawk Indians, burst from the South Meeting House with the spirit of freedom burning in their eyes. The patriots headed towards Griffin's Wharf and the three ships. Quickly, quietly, and in an orderly manner, the Sons of Liberty boarded each of the tea ships. Once on board, the patriots went to work striking the chests with axes and hatchets. Thousands of spectators watched in silence. Only the sounds of ax blades splitting wood rang out from Boston Harbor. Once the crates are open, the patriots dumped the tea into the sea.

The silence was broken only by the cry of "East Indian" as patriots caught Charles O'Conner filling the lining of his coat with tea. George Hewes removed O'Connor's coat, threatened him with death if he revealed the identity of any man present, and sent him scurrying out of town. The patriots work feverishly, fearing an attack by Admiral Montague at any moment. By nine o'clock p.m., the Sons of Liberty had emptied a total of 342 crates of tea into Boston Harbor. Fearing any connection to their treasonous deed, the patriots took off their shoes and shook them overboard. They swept the ships' decks, and made each ship's first mate attest that only the tea was damaged.

When all was through, Lendall Pitts led the patriots from the wharf, tomahawks and axes resting on their shoulders. A fife played as they marched past the home where British Admiral Montague had been spying on their work. Montague yelled as they past, "Well boys, you have had a fine, pleasant evening for your Indian caper, haven't you? But mind, you have got to pay the fiddler yet!"

Montague's words were to be an omen for the patriots. The party was indeed over for Boston.

22. thanks for that link... I copied and pasted the quote from Wikipadia...
After posting the OP, I noticed that the site had not only altered the quote but also demonized Martin Niemöller to a slight degree. I was shocked when i went back to the site to see if I had somehow missed copying a stanza.

Here is one example of inflammatory copy now at Wikipedia, which was not there the last time I posted an earlier version of the quote only a few months ago:

"According to Holocaust scholar Robert Michael, beliefs such as those held by Niemöller made even Nazi victims into Holocaust collaborators: "Martin Niemoeller in his radically antisemitic August 1935 sermon noted that the Jews would not be released from their suffering until they converted, Jewish suffering being "proof" that Jesus was God. The essential reason the Jews were cursed was because they "brought the Christ of God to the Cross ... These kinds of statements are a result of traditional antisemitism, and beliefs such as these corrupted average people as well as the elite and made them all not just victims of Nazis but active or passive collaborators in the Holocaust." <11> According to Dr. Michael, Martin Niemoeller agreed with the Nazi's position on the Jewish question.<12>"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Niem%C3%B6ller

The earlier version at Wikipedia presented the THEN THEY CAME FOR THE JEWS stanza.

New England Holocaust Memorial

The version inscribed at the New England Holocaust Memorial in Boston, Massachusetts reads:

They came first for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.

Then they came for me,
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

Could you give specific examples?

Could you speculate (or do you know?) the agencies involved?

How long has it been going on?

BTW, if anyone has anti-war videos at YOUTUBE that you want in this group of fine media I found at the site, please submit it to this group:

http://www.youtube.com/groups_videos?name=healamerica

You will most likely enjoy the videos at that link. Here is the opening statement:

HEAL THE WOUNDS
There is no reason for divisiveness, as many die to obscenly profit a VERY small group. Someone’s idea of "Compassionate Conservatism" is slashing a gaping wound into the very heart of America. Now, we must ALL unify to protect not only the lives of our finest but also traditional values, like the BILL of RIGHTS, which is under dire threat. I offer some pertinent questions in a video. The PRINCE OF PEACE teaches us to LIVE with others. Isn’t it time to heed the Word?

59. On those log entries ...

In and of themselves, they don't really point to anything nefarious going on.

A "daemon" is simply a process that runs in the background. On any modern operating system, you'll have many of these running at any given time. By default Windows has a print spooler daemon (C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe) running at all times. You can turn this off, but not if you want to print anything to a printer or anything that uses the spooler. The log posted in the other thread indicates internal communication within your computer or possibly a local network in your home. The "daemon" referenced in this case *is* your firewall, which runs a background process. Your anti-virus program will run a daemon as well. Without knowing everything set up on your system, I can only offer a guess that your firewall has dynamic rule-sets that change and log themselves as changed when some internal process requires that change. An example of a dynamic change is that your typical Windows firewall will disallow connections on some port, but you have an application, e.g. a web browser, that uses that port you have indicated you will allow to use that port. In order for that application to function, a static rule that prevents use of that port can't be defined, or it would prevent the application from doing what it does. Thus, the rule is dynamically altered (and logged) to show the temporary change for that purpose.

You commented on nsatv.org or nsant.org or nsa.org. The first is a registered domain with an owner who has a Canadian e-mail address and a mailing address in Ontario, Canada. The second doesn't exist. The third is a registered domain to someone who lives or operates out of California. Note that none of these have anything to do with nsa.gov, much as whitehouse.org has nothing to do with whitehouse.gov. The nsa.org address has a web presence that at least suggests the owner isn't a big fan of the NSA, referring as it does to the Homeland Bullshit Advisory System. The nsatv.org has a web presence indicating the owner caters to all terrain vehicle enthusiasts.

As for your e-mail, there's nothing you've offered that allows evaluation. We need e-mail headers. On some web-based e-mail systems, seeing this means looking for a usually obscure option to see the "original" or "source" or "raw" e-mail. (And I've run across some that don't have this option at all.) Unless the headers are munged, they will show the path of the e-mail from sender to the server you're using. A standard experiment to see if your e-mail is being intercepted is to send an e-mail from the address (using that server) you suspect is a target to two different e-mail addresses on different servers, preferably two that you just created and that are geographically distant and not run by the same company. Then reverse this process, sending an e-mail from those two different servers to your account on the suspicious server. Then check the headers on the received e-mails and look for suspicious routing. If, for example, I sent an e-mail from my cox.net address to my gmail.com address and my yahoo.com address and saw an identical routing point in the path after the e-mail left cox's servers and before it'd arrived at either gmail or yahoo, I'd be suspicious. Another element that can arouse suspicion is regular and unusual lapses of time from one routing point to another. Again, though, you need headers to see this.

As for your hotmail account being messed up, that's not exactly unusual.

You might also want to look into use of GPG.

42. I'm watching a few of yours right now... I got the email to approve your comment a while ago....
and YOUTUBE finally offered a way for me to approve your comment on my video just now... I got another email from YOUTUBE to approve another comment and since my inbox is garbled I went to my MSN home-page to read the email and attempt to read the new comment. Here is what my homepage says, where my email was appearing only minutes ago:
"Hotmail

The Hotmail service is temporarily unavailable."

...just go to your "inbox" at YouTube - there should be something there - I think.

Good luck!
