George Mitchell for Ambassador to the U.N.?
Edited on Mon Dec-04-06 01:00 PM by cali
Yeah, I know it's unlikely, but idot drudge says he's on the short list. Freeps, of course, are a-freakin', and I do mean really freaking out about an unsubstantiated drudge rumor. They're horror knows no bounds. Unlikely as it is, I'd love to see Mitchell as the nominee.

*I'm not bothering to link to drudge because there's not even a story, just a one liner saying that Mitchell is on the short list.

1. Former Senator Mitchell would be an excellent choice
He's got the diplomacy Bolton lacked, plus he'd win an easy confirmation from the 110th Congress.

5. Damned straight it could work.
He's one of the best negotiators in the world. Would georgie ever have the good sense to see that Mitchell would be a brilliant pick? Nah.

7. Democrat Norm Mineta served for six years in the Bush Cabinet
as Sec. of Transportation.

8. Yes, but he's hardly of the stature that
Mitchell is. I don't think bush is about to nominate a dem as prominent as Mitchell to anything.

10. We need a career diplomat in that position, or someone with extensive
foreign policy experience who knows the nomenclature of the U.N. backwards and forwards.

Unfortunately, former Secretary Mineta doesn't have the qualifications.
:(

11. I don't think anyone was suggesting Norm Mineta
should be the nominee, but George Mitchell fits all the requirements. He's more than qualified, even if he's not a career diplomat.

13. Former Senator Mitchell was U.S. Envoy to Northern Ireland and
headed up the Dayton Peace Accords Commission. He's certainly well-liked and respected by his colleagues in the Senate.

Now, the question is: Assuming he's offered the U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. position, would he take it?

6. It's a great idea but . . .
. . . Bush is doing the nominating, so we;re more likely going to be reacting to the nomination of Rush Limbaugh than George Mitchell.

9. George Michael would be the first openly gay UN ambassador!
That would be great! I'm astonished that the loathsome hate-mongering fundaloon pandering creeps in the white house would consider such a move.

What? Oh you said George Mitchell? Nevermind.
E. Latella, RIP.

I respect him a lot, not just as an American politician, but for the good contribution he made to the Northern Ireland peace process.

But Bush is never going to appoint anyone decent.

ETA: George Michael might also be an idea!

14. He'd be fine, but why would he want to join an administration with
only two years left?

15. More to the point, why would he want to join
an administration whose policy is antithetical to his beliefs- as I suspect they are.

16. George Mitchell would be an excellent choice.
That's why Bush will not nominate him.
