Said Senator Brownback.

Can you imagine this guy as the nominee for them?

1. "prayerful consideration"
I'd say he follows Bush nicely for the GOP - not much of a step up.

16. Sounds like a great idea to me....but then
I was turning handsprings in 1980 when they nominated Reagan 'cuz I figgered ol' Ronnie Raygun was about the only Puggie candidate that Carter could walk all over. (I'm still kinda pissed at Teddy Kennedy for his spoiler role of messing around in the Dem primary that year).

17. Maybe God wants the Dems to win in 2008.
That's why Brownback got the message.

5. God told him: "Sure, go ahead and run for President. You can't possibly
screw things up worse than Bush.

But enough with the phony religion, OK? I know where your heart lies. You aren't fooling me."

6. Well, Mitt the Shitt Romney, the other "prayerful" candidate, just got his ass bit by his
undocumented lawn care workers!!! Maybe Brownback saw that as a sign from God?

9. given Brownbacks political history, he will more likely be "appointed" President
guy has more of a history of being selected and appointed to poisitons than actually being elected to them.

during his first run for the Senate?

Right now, I'd say he's a true front-runner.

You tell me who Republicans are going to vote for in their primary (which, mind you, places large emphasis on the base of the party, ie the most conservative of Republicans):

The Maverick, aka by Republicans, the Traitor, John McCain? Not likely. And you can apply the same label to Chuck Hagel too.

The pro-gay, pro-choice Northeastern adulterer, Rudy Giuliani? Not in this lifetime.

The Massachusetts Mormon, Mitt Romney? Mormon alone kills him, being from "Taxachusetts" doesn't help.

The Has-been known as Newt Gingrich? I doubt they like him much more now than they did when they booted him out.

Or the God-lovin', always ultra-conservative Sam Brownback?

On edit: Also toss in the fact that conservative strategists have been saying they lost in 2006 because they "weren't conservative enough". If that doesn't add up to a perfect storm for Brownback, I don't know what does.

13. I say we support his nomination on the stipulation that
if (when) he loses, he admits that God didn't want him to be president after all.

15. Sure I can
I think they're going to offer a sacrificial lamb that appeals to the wacky religious right and no one else. That will do two things: prove that more besides religious wingnuttery is needed and it will get what they hope will be a weak, conservative Democrat into office so they can blame him/her for all the fallout from the previous 8 years.

Now that Macaca Allen is out, Brownback is perfect.

Let Him use Brownback as His instrument to completely destroy what's left of the Republic Party.

Even religious loons think Brownback is nuts.

28. Why the hell not?
I think the only hope for the Republican Party lies in getting it away from the evangelical Christians like Brownback, Bush and Santorum, and from the deficit spenders like Bush and Reagan. I figure there HAS to be a Republican out there who is a good Christian but not one who wants Jesus to return before the end of his term so badly he'll try to make it happen, and who understands macroeconomics at the presidential level.

The old-school Republicans will gladly throw together a Brownback-Santorum ticket then pay Diebold/ES&S not to rig the election, assuming that the whole country isn't on paper ballots by 2008. We could run ANYONE against a Brownback-Santorum ticket that's being counted by honest machines or by human hands, and win big.

Once the Repugs get their asses handed to them, wiser souls will step in.
