1. I really really hate *'s speech delivery
Short declarative sentences that state the obvious.

A forth graders book report is more interesting.

14. And he talks in such a condescending, patronizing way
It's like he feels that only he, George W. Bush, knows the facts, and it's up to him to educate us.

7. Abdul Aziz al-Hakim

Abdul Aziz al-Hakim
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

Abdul Aziz al-Hakim with Donald RumsfeldSayyed Abdul Aziz al-Hakim (Arabic: عبد العزيز الحكيم ) (born 1953) is an Iraqi theologian and politician and the leader of SCIRI, the largest political party in the Iraqi National Assembly.

He was a member of the U.S.-appointed Iraqi Governing Council and served as its president in December 2003. Brother of the Shia leader Mohammed Baqir al-Hakim, he replaced him as leader of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq when Mohammed Baqir was assassinated in August 2003 in Najaf.

He was born in 1953, the son of Grand Ayatollah Muhsin Al-Hakim, the spiritual leader of the world's Shi'a from 1955-1970. He played a leading role in the Safar Intifada in 1977 and was imprisoned in 1972, 1977 and 1979. He went into exile in Iran in 1980, where he was a founder member in 1982 of SCIRI and headed their military wing, the Badr Brigade. He was the top candidate listed for the United Iraqi Coalition during the first Iraqi legislative election of January 2005 but has not sought a government post because the Alliance had decided not to include theologians in the government.

9. This is the Shiite leader most strongly backed by Iran. His Badr
Corps is a very strong, well trained militia - not as big as the Mahdi Army, but better trained and supported by Iran (Sadr is anti-Iran and doesn't have the support). If this guy takes over in Iraq, then Iran will have won completely and the Sunnis are done for...

12. Okay, it is SO difficult to keep up with all the 'leaders' in Iraq
Edited on Mon Dec-04-06 03:52 PM by angstlessk
so the Badr Bridage is NOT run by Al Sadr but the Mahdi Army IS? One needs a playbook. Is there one coming out anytime soon?

Edit: and I try hard to keep up with the goings on in Iraq. Juan Cole being my MUST READ.
