5. The war is the only thing.....
That prevents (or deters) his impeachment. In his mind, the American people wouldn't dare impeach a president during wartime.

...and then of course there's the oil.

14. The unrest in the ME is good for business
Bush's economic plans are dependent on weapons productions. It would appear that arms are one of the few exports we still have that's actually selling.

Face it, the housing bubble has ran it course. Core inflation is on the rise, manufacturing is at 3.5 year low and the dollar is quivering painfully in foreign markets. This is the last ace they have to attempt to prop up the economy. It would be an assured win for a Democratic president in 2008 if the economy crashes before then, and they damn well know that.

They'll shed all the blood they have to to try and cover up the mess they've created.

16. If the economy crashes before 2008, won't they try to blame it on the Democratic congress?

25. Sure, just like they would have if it had before then.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

But most are already aware that the housing bubble is bursting and the dollar is dropping, core inflation is right at 2.9 and we've closed down and off-shored the majority of our manufacturing. All this while our leaders have squandered our tax dollars and ran up a record national debt with no hopes or ideas of how to pay it back. Whatever plan they had for the economy has failed them. I don't think weapons production will be nearly enough correct things either. But, I don't doubt that's how some of them are validating the reasons to shrub for hanging in there in Iraq.
