Pornaments
The local TV news stations in San Diego are all up in arms. Spencer's Gift stores in the major malls here are selling these openly, IN PLAIN VIEW OF CHILDREN. They have a sectioned-off corner of their store with all their adult items, and only customers 18 or older can go in that section. But, the Pornaments are sold right in the front of the store, where children can see them (and supposedly, figure out what they are.)

To see pictures of these items, go to:

http://www.spencersonline.com/

and type in "Pornaments" in the Search box and click "Search."

5. Would the uproar be as intense if toy guns and fighter planes were...
...in the front of the store where children could see them? Maybe it's just me but instruments of death seem way more offensive than silly sex ornaments.

6. These are extremely inappropriate in an area where children
Edited on Mon Dec-04-06 09:55 PM by BlackVelvet04
can see them. I think they are inappropriate for any reason, but that's a
personal choice.

While I don't think these should be in plain view I wonder why anyone would let a child go into Spencers at all. That store has always had things inappropriate for children.

12. I think I know what you mean, but here's what I mean.
as another poster pointed out, it's quite fine to display guns and f16s in the windows - the death machines - the takers of life. but having something like this displayed To The Children is somehow more traumatic? Sex is traumatic?

if a kid doesn't know the 'deal' he or she just may ignore it or ask their parents what are they doing, Mom/Dad?...

erm, they may be making babies instead of bombing them?

at first I was a bit aghast at this, but I'm trying to retrain my kneejerk reactions that I've been taught.

and no, not in any way is sex more evil than slaughtering people. I have a bit of problem with the name pornaments, because healthy sex is not porn, Porn to me is having unhealthy sex and unhealthy attitudes, but I'll leave it at that for now.

13. One of the customers interviewed for the new story was a man who said,
"What if my son asks me, Daddy, what are those reindeer doing?" or words to that effect. I guess in that case it would be about time to have that talk.

11. I'm one of the biggest prudes on this board, but
these "pornaments" don't bother me.....

Spencer's has ALWAYS got questionable stuff in there. My kids know
they're gonna get an eyeful if they go in. The eleven year old
usually waits outside (her choice!) if I need to run in for a lava-lamp bulb
or some gag gift.

They know it's campy crap.
