Cops Kill Kid for PS3

WILMINGTON, N.C. - A teenager accused of robbing a student of two new Playstation 3s on the day the popular game consoles were introduced was killed by police who had been sent to arrest him.

Peyton Strickland, 18, was killed Friday at a house he shared with three roommates, New Hanover County Sheriff Sid Causey said.

How much do you want to bet they ended up taking the PS3s as "evidence"?

2. they took the front door as evidence

...and it looks like he and a friend beat up another kid for two PS3's. The cops killed his dog as well. They haven't released whether he was armed or not.

6. Bashed in the door?
Edited on Mon Dec-04-06 09:52 PM by Rockstone
"Roommate Mike Rhoton said Strickland was unarmed, but may have been holding a video game controller when he went to the door as it was bashed in by officers."

Armed with a controller?

There is something David Koresh wrong about busting into places and getting people killed...

12. it's been a story for the past few days here
in raleigh/durham. Apparently they were serving an arrest warrant, the kids wouldn't open up so they bashed down the door, at least seven shots were fired according to tonight's news, the victim was unarmed and no guns were taken from the home.

9. It appears they mistook a black PS3 controller for a gun and shot him to death.
I remember Amidou Diallo got shot 41 times because the several policemen thought his black wallet was a gun. The story says the suspect had a black controller in his hand when the police knocked down the door and saw him.

23. Last summer, not far from here, some people (kids?) threw eggs
off an overpass onto the windshield of a Toyota being driven by a lady with her 2 kids in the back.
She could't see, ran off the road into a tree. She died. But it was just a harmless prank.

That can be said about many Americans enjoying their freedom. It does not justify shooting an unarmed man, guilty of battery and robbery or not.

Like those floozies who asked to be raped by dressing 'provocatively'...

16. I'm sorry, I didn't realize...
we have now instituted the instant death penalty for petty theft (and done away with trial by jury in the process).

Who said the kid who bought the damn thing was asking for anything? My comment solely addressed the apparent punishment for the crime in question.

21. It wasn't petty theft, it was armed robbery.
I daresay if your mom had been robbed in that manner you'd look at it a bit differently.

27. you're right... not petty theft...
Armed (with a "blunt object") robbery, I get it. Serious business. Does it warrant killing the alleged perp (as well as his dog) after the fact? In my opinion, no.
and no, if my very own dear mother was attacked by someone with a blunt object for her beloved PS3, I would not go over to the guy's house later and kill him and his dog. And I'm sure my mother (if she was alive) would agree with me. Probably because that's how she raised me. However, if he had killed her for the thing, I can't say that I wouldn't want to exact revenge in such a manner. Despite how disappointed in me she would be.

Now, if the alleged robber was thought to have a weapon (the game controller and perhaps a menacing german shepard?) and threatened the lives of the officers, perhaps there's some justification for their actions. But that's a little different than just going over to the suspect's house and killing him because of the crime he was alleged to have committed.

15. Why not speak the truth in your thread title instead of lying?
They didn't kill the kid for a PS3 - they didn't kill anyone for a PS3. That's pure lie.

What they did do was shoot to death AN ADULT (though the news source sensationalized it by saying 'teenager') who stole 2 PS3s.

We'll let the court decide if it was justified or not - by the material in the article, there is absolutely know way to know, because it doesn't say anything about what happened other than the end result of one adult and one dog shot to death.
