WP: House to vote on abortion anesthesia
Democrats stay neutral; GOP vows more social-issue tests in next Congress
By Jonathan Weisman

In a parting gesture by social conservatives before Republicans relinquish control, House leaders plan to bring up a bill tomorrow that would declare that fetuses feel pain and require abortion providers to offer pregnant patients anesthesia for their unborn child.

The scheduled vote may be the last on abortion-related legislation for years. That's because Democratic leaders hope to avoid confrontations over hot-button social issues that divide their caucus, and focus instead on military and pocketbook issues.

But Republicans and antiabortion activists signaled yesterday that they intend to press hard on social issues, even those that failed to gain traction during Republican control, to separate moderate-to-conservative Democrats from their more liberal leaders.

"The Democrats are facing an interesting situation because they ran to the right in this election," said Wendy Wright, president of the conservative group Concerned Women for America. "They promised one thing to America with their campaigning. The question is, will they live up to that image? Running and hiding is not a solution."

2. The more rabid the right wing become, the more votes they
will lose. Women, their families, and doctors should make the decision on these issues.

You would have thought the right wingers would have learned their lesson after Terry Schiavo.

The American people voted for moderation, not extremism.

3. Fetal pain is another damned right wing fantasy
The research has been DONE, guys, and the area of the brain that receives and interprets pain IS NOT THERE until some time during the last two months of gestation.

I wish somebody would manage to slap these superstitious know nothings and political panderers down HARD and nail them for attempting to practice medicine without licenses.

Although women might like a shot of morphine before the procedure (it HURTS, guys), that would mean the women couldn't drive home afterwards.

These antichoice MEN only want to make surgical and chemical abortions more expensive and raise extra barriers against women who need them.

I wouldn't want to face their Karma. They are pure evil, all of them.

4. oh, but you foget: science means nothing to these assclowns
They'll keep pushing the image of white babies getting butchered. It's more dramatic than the actual truth.

5. Go ahead, dumbasses...pass it!
Then we can say, "Fetuses can't even feel pain during the procedure when they're under anesthesia, so you have no reason to object to abortion."

LOL!

6. "running and hiding is not a solution"?

Funny, isn't that what conservatives do? Anyway, I believe the Democrats promised change and accountability in the election. Not making sure fetuses don't feel pain.

And yes, they're actually contradicting their whole "it's a brutal procedure! those poor babies!" thing as a reason to end abortion. With that reason gone...never mind, they'll find plenty others. When will they just admit that this is about women, not babies?
