WTF ??? - Are Lou Dobb's Website Polls A Kind Of Internet Push-Poll ???
Get a load of today's poll:

Do you believe racial profiling, affirmative action and corporate diversity programs are constitutionally permissible?

Current results:

Yes 31% 2221 votes

No 69% 4881 votes

Total: 7102 votes

Link: http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/lou.dobbs.tonight/

So I take it that if I'm against racial profiling, but for affirmative action, I'm either forced to choose, or just ignore the poll altogether. Which is usually my primary decision, LOL!!!

:wtf::shrug::wtf:

On some subjects, like the war on the middle-class, I find myself agreeing with the Dobbster, but his need for continual self-massaging poll results leaves a really bad taste in my mouth, ya know???

1. Dobbs is an asshole, and this looks to be a push poll
sort of a way of saying, "well, if affirmative action is ok, so is racial profiling", and, conversely, "if we can't racially profile, then affirmative action should be illegal too".

And Dobbs has done absolutely nothing for the middle class, except get rich off of them.

2. That's nowhere near as bad as most of his.
Usually it's something ridiculous like "Do you believe the government needs to take a harder line against illegal immigrants to keep them off of our welfare?" Honestly, no-kidding, I think a third of his polls have 90%+ voting the "correct" way.

4. Yes. No matter the "answer", they can spin it their own way.
Today's question is a perfect example. MOST people have NO idea what's constitutional and what's not. Even the senat/congress don;t seem to know, or why would so many laws end up at SCOTUS?

If Lou just wanted to know what people thought, he would word it like this: 2 questions

Are YOU in favor of affirmative action/diversity in schools and businesses?

Are YOU in favor of racial profiling in law enforcement?

'nuff said

5. I boiled down your concerns, which are mine as well, and sent Lou this message:
I have a question about today's push-poll. What if I'm against racial profiling, but for affirmative action and diversity programs? Generally speaking, those who are against singling people out for the bad kind of discrimination (racial profiling) are going to be good-hearted enough to support diversity by helping minorities get the extra leg up they need in the interests of eventual equality. Your poll doesn't recognize that, preferring the either/or, yes/no, "when did you stop beating your wife?" approach. The poll should have more choices because most people's thinking is a lot more nuanced than you might like.

Also, you need a third "neutral" choice when you ask whether my comment today is positive or negative. It's neither, but since you insist on one or the other, you rate a "negative".

8. It was my distinct pleasure.
I'm not sure if he cares what Canadians think, though.

7. While Corporate America has a LONG ways to go...
They are making a lot of progress in regards to diversity - 13 years ago, less than 30 of the Fortune 500 offered benefits to same-sex partners. Today, that number is almost 300 companies in the Fortune 500. (saw an article in Fortune on this today - no link, it was a hard copy) I doubt many corporations are going to go backwards in that regards. Heck, even Wal-Mart is taking the plunge there (whoop-de-do, some great benefits a gay person can share with their partner!)

Similarly, other minorities have made progress in the workplace, though not as dramatic as GLBT progress. When I got out of college in the 80s, most senior management was white & male. While that is still true today, it is definitely changing over time - Pepsi just named an Indian woman as their new CEO this year.

How is this a bad thing? We're already suffering from a shortage of talented workers in this country - we need everybody we can get, regardless of race, color, religion, sexual preference, gender, etc.
