I used a google check-out on an internet purchase to receive 20$ off of my order |
|
The vendor has nothing to do with google other than it was one of the first hits I got while googling and item I was searching for. They offered two ways to complete my purchase, one way was through them and the other was a "google check-out". If I used the google check out, which I did, I received 20$ off my total price.
"Why would google do this", I started thinking. Certainly the merchant isn't taking the ding. Google must be paying them. Are they collecting information on people by doing this?

1. Probably a joint venture there, with both taking a hit. |

Google pays up to spread consumer awareness of its Google Checkout service. The merchant likely covers a bit of it too as part of their contract, as Google Checkout is likely more cost-efficient for the retailer as well.
That's my take.

2. I think Google is moving into... |

...the transaction management business. Processing transactions for small online businesses has been pretty lucrative for PayPal. I guess the Googsters want some of that action. No doubt they'll add their own unique spin, maybe making people's transaction history searchable, or suggesting purchases based on past buying behavior.
Oh, and yes, they will be collecting info on people, but then who doesn't? Unfortunately, our privacy is a quickly disappearing commodity.

If you are shopping at Target, google "Target Promo" or if it's Old Navy, use "Old Navy Promo". I got 10 $ off and free shipping with codes from these sources. I do all my Christmas shopping online cause I have MS.
