Matthews Sidelined Until Next Week; Was In Hospital For Complications From Diabetes

Chris Matthews won't be back on the air until next week, after he was hospitalized due to complications from diabetes.

Matthews hasn't hosted Hardball since Nov. 27. He was missing from a panel discussion last Thursday (Andrea Mitchell subbed) and he was MIA for the show's college tour yesterday (Campbell Brown filled in). Mike Barnicle filled in for Matthews today.

A spokesperson says Matthews checked out of the hospital on Friday, and MSNBC expects him back on Hardball next week....

1. I'm glad. I would not wish diabetes complications on ANYONE.
It doesn't matter what I think of a person's character, I could not wish anything bad like what diabetics go through, on anyone.

4. good. even if I disagree with him at times, I don't mind listening to
people who have a different viewpoint. Listening to an echo chamber can be dangerous. Luckily here, at DU, we have different views on several issues;

hillary
christianity's responsibility for war, murder, and worse
israel's apartheid in Palestine
Belgium

5. I'm so glad that he is better
I still don't like his personality and I wish that he would be replaced with someone more likable.

6. Maybe that explains his mood swings

He can change a mood in 1/2 of a second.

9. That is exactly what I thought when we heard the news
Four close family members are diabetics, one in his fifth year of end stage renal failure. I hate this disease more than all others, it's taking my beautiful FIL.

10. Chris Matthews is apparently a diabetic
You'd think he might support stem cell.

Or talk about the costs of some of the new meds for diabetes, such as Bayetta.

He won't be falling into the donut hole and be unable to pay for his drugs.
His insurance company won't deny him a glucometer or not let him see a
nutritionist.
He won't have trouble finding podiatrists he can afford or who take his insurance to keep his feet from being amputated.
He won't have to travel for miles or go to an indigent clinic to get his eyes checked for retinopathy.
He can afford the Viagra he will need when his diabetes renders him impotent, if it hasn't already.

I hope he reaps what he has sown.
