For those who are wondering, here is why we are having all of the '08 threads
Edited on Tue Dec-05-06 10:07 PM by Hippo_Tron
There's an extremely simple explanation.

Everybody wants the opportunity to be able to say say, "I supported the President of the United States before most of the country even knew who he/she was."

Everybody likes the idea that they might jump on with a candidate early and be a supporter of that candidate all the way to the White House.

That is why we start talking about presidential elections as early as possible.

2. Either that, or, there's just nothing really to talk about right now.
We all got hyped up for an election last month. We won. Huzzah! And in another month we'll take power and kick ass. Huzzah!

But for right now we have all this left-over energy and nothing to direct it towards. Yeah, we could all rehash again how much we hate Bush and want us out of Iraq and all that, but there's not much argument there. So it's non-sex sex threads in the Lounge, Apocalypto, Britney Spears, or 2008. Those, or we could go out and live productive real lives and chase our dreams. But if we were those type of people, we'd already be doing that!

5. Why not direct that energy toward solutions
How do we solve the energy problem
How do we limit corporate power
How do we get back our constitution.
SAnd if we talk enough and the politicians hear it we will hear them talk back.

7. Orrrr... gee... maybe we could talk about poverty.
You know... because we're waaaay too busy at other times to talk about it, and figure some of the things that could be done.

12. Well
not being a scientist or a lawyer, I don't have the ability to change those things, so it's more effective for people like me to talk about who we can put into power who can do something about it. It goes back to that whole republic versus democracy debate.

3. Interesting thought. However, I think that after the election push towards 2006,
and the double win (House and Senate), there's a void that just has to be filled with... thinking about and cuddling up to 2008, even though it's two years away.

I think we're just gathering our thoughts for 2007-08. By extension, it has to include discussion about the trek to the White House.

it would die of loneliness.

9. I think that anybody who posts any "who...in 2008" poll should be put on time-out.
Poll after poll of the same rehashed and unoriginal choices for 2008. Don't any of these posters know it has been done to death? Or do they think these polls are ones that never occurred to anybody else but them before? Give it a rest already.

11. If only we could hide threads by keyword.
They'd all shrink up and die away from neglect.

16. I certainly agree with that.
I could think of couple of other thread supbjects that get run into the ground over and over and over again. It would be so nice to hide them using just one key word.

13. Since the candidates are starting to pretty much declare their intentions
to run, then I think that sparks a lot of threads at DU as well.

14. I find the threads interesting
It is one of the reasons I come here. If I am not in the mood to view another 2008 poll then I don't view it. I have noticed an increase in pro-Hillary threads and it seems maybe a little less interest in General Clark in the last few weeks. Obama fascinates me. I guess I really don't understand the moaning and groaning about those who are interested and excited in anticipation of 2008.

15. My theory....
It's ours for the taking. So many talented potential candidates. The "void" exists on the GOP side.

It's like playing fantasy politics....form your dream team.

Not a bad problem to have folks....:kick:
