Bill O'reilly needs to shut his damn mouth.
Edited on Tue Dec-05-06 11:29 PM by EdwardM
This is a popular video that has been spreading around the internet.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8x14cLGh5o&eurl

You should watch it, it's actually kind of cute. Well Bill O'reilly just called this video "Child Abuse" and compared it to child rape. I kid you not, if someone has this crap taped, please upload it to the internet. If this is "child abuse", then so is parents forcing their kids to go to church. I hope the parents sue Bill O'reilly, as he just slandered them. How dare he do this!

4. I don't think parents should be teaching their children about religion...
or atheism. I think children should be taught both, and should be given the choice to make up their own minds.

I hope most kids would choose atheism (i.e. sanity) but it may not be so.

People have a right to become who they want to be.

5. I really don't know much about raising children
Thats why I don't have children. I don't know if it is good to teach kids all these ideas at a young age. But when I was this child's age, my mom took me to a church where I was told non christians, homosexual, and even my dad are burning in hell. I consider that to be far worse than anything that happens in this video. Maybe its right or wrong for parent's to teach children these concepts at a young age I don't know, but I rather they would teach the right concepts like they seem to be doing in this video. But for Bill O'reilly to call this "child abuse" and even compare it to rape was flat out wrong.

8. I think the kid was coached to a large degree...
but the points made were valid and very true. And Billo as usual skewers this in a direction that only he and his moran viewers could accept rather than the truth she told.

It's a struggle to find a balance with my kids. I'm agnostic and I know it's easy for me to get on a rant about religion, bush and war. It would be easy to doctrinate my kids to my own ideas and thoughts.

I want them to learn about religion and determine for themselves if it has value for them and at the same time I don't want them to be so bogged down by those beliefs that it clouds thought and reason. I trust my kids to figure things out for themselves and will help educate them as they get older.

10. I'm pretty sure she was reading lines
I can't imagine an 8 year old being that smart(except for me when I was 8 :P) But if this is child abuse, then so is the million of Americans who force their children to go to church. And Bill O'reilly has shown no proof that she was forced to do this.

12. My RW mom is always ragging on me about my kids and church...
I let my little boy go on Wednesdays. He gets a little exposure plus they do have a lot of fun there. She tried to pry Sundays out of me and I said no. It was too much.

Maybe someone needs to show O'Lielly some real child abuse...like all those children who've died in Iraq as a result of bush's war. Oh, damn. Can't do that. It's the truth and you know how much he hates that. :)

15. Yeah this isn't even close to child abuse.
Bill O'reilly needs to get over it. Different people have different beliefs than him, and just because they teach their children different things is not child abuse. Child Abuse is a very serious charge, and Bill O'Reilly needs to show more responsiblity in making these charges.

22. I come from a long line of bible thumpers...
As a kid so much of it never made sense to me and I was forced to go to church at least twice a week. I hated it, but that's not why I changed my views.

I just want my kids to have the choice and for them to figure out on their own what works for them. It was more than I got and I was pretty screwed up for a long time. I never want that on my kids.

Thanks for what you said.

14. Um, Religion has a history, atheism, not so much
Thus, I think Religious History should be taught, as well as critical thinking (which I was never taught - had to learn it thru reading - miss you Carl Sagan!)

I knew I was an atheist by the time I was 7 or 8, exposed to too many different sects.

26. I am agnostic and I struggled with this
I am agnostic in that I have no faith in God, but I have not found a way to completely disprove the existence of God, and with so many others in the world having faith, I remain open to the possibility that there could be something that I am missing. I had a catholic upbringing. As a little girl I recall believing in God but beginning around the age of 12 I began to lose faith. I stopped going to church after I left my parent's house but kept my lack of faith mostly to myself for a few years, and finally came "out of the closet" when I was in college. I observe Christmas but I approach it as a cultural thing, and an excuse to spend time with family.

I have 11 year old twin boys. Their father maintains faith but has serious doubts, so going to church was never a way of life or an issue for either of us. In the beginning I avoided discussing religion with the kids altogether. A couple years ago the day I dreaded arrived and my kids started coming home and asking about religion, asking whether they could start going to church like their father's side of the family does. Their questions made me nervous; I'd grown sufficiently confident in my views that I could be honest about my lack of faith to most adults but when my kids asked, it was a whole 'nother matter. Being agnostic I cannot let go of the possibility that a God exists -- indeed, in some of the more difficult times in my life when I was most in need of comfort I have tried in vain to will myself into believing -- and I did not want to "spoil" my kids' chance of finding faith where I have failed. So I just kind of took it a day at a time. When they asked about Jesus, I answered by saying things like, "Well, they say Jesus was the son of God." I educated them while avoiding informing them on my own views. And when one of them came home and asked whether he could attend religious services with a Muslim friend from school, I said go right ahead.

Well, just a few months ago I finally told them the truth. The world did not end. In a way I wish I would have told them sooner because the moment I told them it's like this invisible wall that I didn't even know existed but had been standing between us fell away, yet overall I don't regret my approach. As it stands, one of my boys (the one who asked to go to the Muslim services and has always been the more curious of the two about religion) today claims he is a Christian. The other seems utterly unconcerned with religion at this point. Both are very happy and well-adjusted kids, and show respect and kindness to others. Whatever they turn out to be as adults -- theists or atheists -- they will be just fine, and I will completely love them either way.

23. He said some insane things.
He called it child abuse, then he suggested that social services take the child away. Later he made a comment that "if this is happenening you know other things are happening also." Hey Bill, where is your proof of that? Whatever happened to responsibility in journalism? I understand people have a problem with this video being posted, but Bill O'reilly was out of his damn mind with some of the things he said. I wish I could find a video of it somewhere.

Other than the stupid nightly revival rants, it was a lot of fun. We played ball, ran around, stayed up all night, and more. It was a blast. Just hated the church going part. It wasn't anything like that freaky Jesus camp shit.

the more i didnt like it. i thought they went to far in adult language for a child that young. she was cute as pie. though i am ot impressed with parental decisions. not that it was bad. i would not decide that for another parent. the girl is obviously smart. even at reading the lines and practicing. cute as pie. just too much. in our house,.... it is never bashing or trashing. respect, even in disagreeing.

That is fine. I understand the disagreement with this. But for Bill O'reilly to call this child abuse on national TV was irresponsible as hell. He even started suggesting ways to punish the parents. Child abuse includes rape, beating, emotional abuse, and forcing them to picket soldier's funerals with signs saying "thank god for dead troops," not this. Not even close.

24. No. Child rape was what was going on in Dilldo's mind
when he was watching that clip. Or is it just 11 year old Thai girls that he likes? The left should be ashamed of itself for allowing someone like him to still be a player on the national scene. He says he refuses to talk about his sexual harrassment lawsuit, but why does everyone else act as if they're in on that agreement? Every Democratic talking head should preface the name Bill O'Reilly with "known pervert", every time they mention his name. He shouldn't be able to show his face in public without someone reminding him that he was caught on tape with a dildo up his ass. Yet, I've had to look at his splotchy face so many times, I'm getting splotchy.

You could argue that child was "acting" - the same as any other child "actor". Do they call it child abuse when it's make believe in a moive studio? They have adult language in those films too.
BO is just way over the top, as usual. I doubt he'll retract his child abuse statement. No brain, no pain.
