It's Almost Hypnotic In It's Own Delusional Way !!! (Freepers on Gates)

I wouldn't characterize the current situation as "winning".

I guess I have entered the gray area of nuance. Please enlighten me on how "not winning" does not equal losing. Is there some squishy middle? IMO, I would say that we are succeeding, but we have not completed the mission. What is the mission? An Iraq that can stand on its own two feet.

You people here on FR that are so "short-term solution oriented" need to look back at history. Missions such as this one take years if not decades.

Another big part of this that MANY of you are missing is the mental aspect. If the troops in the field, both Americans and Iraqis, keep hearing American figure heads say that we are not winning, we will NOT win. For example, if you are a coach, you do not tell your team in the middle of a game, "Hey losers, you are losing. In fact you have lost. You may as well quit the game." To continue to say that they are winning is as much inspiration as anything else. The game is not over and to announce in the middle of it that you have lost is the WORST thing to do.

This war,or any war for that matter, "IS'NT A PRIMETIME MINI-SERIES" those clowns in Washington, along with all the assorted armchair generals out there in TV Land, need to quite their bellyaching, and get serious about WINNING.
that means REALLY SUPPORT THE TROOPS, and quite worrying about what the ENEMY thinks. GEEEEZ!!!

He also just told Senator Bird (blech) that the President does not have the right to go into Syria or Iran, and that Bob Gates has no intention of going into Syria, and we shouldn't go into Iran either. Oh he also stated that Iran cannot militarily attack us.
You're right. If he said this and believes it (as he must), and we act on it, we are done. The War may as well be declared "over". The Middle East is "gone", and probably Europe with it.

If we are at that juncture, it is time to remove and save our resources, pull our troops out immediately and bring them back into Fortress America - where we can start prepping for the Final Battle, which will inevitably take place on our own soil and among our own beleaguered people.

Maybe the enemy will be merciful to us and kill us last?

If that is what he said, it is a pretty sad situation indeed. Next step will be the terrorists rushing into schools, homes, and shopping malls.

4. Looks like the "lie until you can fly" and "fake it 'til you make it"
crowd has achieved an extreme cult following. Re- creating yourself and the world an you want it to be in order to achieve desired goals is a valuable tool unless you lose sight of reality.

These guys must have missed the second phase of the course.

7. And it was Curt Weldon who famously said
“We either fight them there, or we fight them in the supermarkets and streets here.”

I will never trust a bag boy again, and it's all that squishy-middled Gates' fault.

My feeling is that Bush is indeed a brilliant military strategist on the level of, say, a Patton. All of this hoopla is to trick the terrorists into thinking that they are winning. Then Bush will unleash a military strategy for victory, which is coming any day now. He is much smarter than his opponents believe. It must be frustrating to have his level of genius and be so under-appreciated.

That level of satire is, (dare I say it?), nearly "Colbertian".
Just beautiful!

15. Oddly, the only response to that one was "what are you smoking?".
Of course, being FR, the ENTIRE response was:
"Dude, I know George W. Bush is a good man, but what are you smoking?"

Even the SLIGHTEST HINT of disagreement with FearlessLeader™ must
be prefaced by unconditional PRAISE for him, in the fascist circle-jerk
"reality" of FreeRepublik!

11. These clowns were spectacularly wrong about the need to invade Iraq in the 1st place.
Why would I think they would be right about what will happen after we leave?

While they were guzzling the kool aid since Bush was selected, we've lost our competitive edge, the strength of the USD, our international reputation, and we are still as dependent on ME oil as we were 6 years ago. Oh, and we've lost 3000 American soldiers, maybe 500,000 innocent Iraqi's killed, and wasted a trillion dollars based on the delusions of the Bush and his neocon buddies.
And what are they concerned about? Islamic fundies sneaking in and killing them in their beds. What a bunch of goofs.

I don't think I'll take anything that nutnest has to say, seriously.

apparently "supporting the troops" means praying that liberals die, instead of actually signing up or signing up their kids ...
