I wouldn't characterize the current situation as "winning".
I guess I have entered the gray area of nuance. Please enlighten me on how "not winning" does not equal losing. Is there some squishy middle? IMO, I would say that we are succeeding, but we have not completed the mission. What is the mission? An Iraq that can stand on its own two feet.
You people here on FR that are so "short-term solution oriented" need to look back at history. Missions such as this one take years if not decades.
Another big part of this that MANY of you are missing is the mental aspect. If the troops in the field, both Americans and Iraqis, keep hearing American figure heads say that we are not winning, we will NOT win. For example, if you are a coach, you do not tell your team in the middle of a game, "Hey losers, you are losing. In fact you have lost. You may as well quit the game." To continue to say that they are winning is as much inspiration as anything else. The game is not over and to announce in the middle of it that you have lost is the WORST thing to do.

This war,or any war for that matter, "IS'NT A PRIMETIME MINI-SERIES" those clowns in Washington, along with all the assorted armchair generals out there in TV Land, need to quite their bellyaching, and get serious about WINNING.
that means REALLY SUPPORT THE TROOPS, and quite worrying about what the ENEMY thinks. GEEEEZ!!!

He also just told Senator Bird (blech) that the President does not have the right to go into Syria or Iran, and that Bob Gates has no intention of going into Syria, and we shouldn't go into Iran either. Oh he also stated that Iran cannot militarily attack us.
You're right. If he said this and believes it (as he must), and we act on it, we are done. The War may as well be declared "over". The Middle East is "gone", and probably Europe with it.
If we are at that juncture, it is time to remove and save our resources, pull our troops out immediately and bring them back into Fortress America - where we can start prepping for the Final Battle, which will inevitably take place on our own soil and among our own beleaguered people.
Maybe the enemy will be merciful to us and kill us last?

If that is what he said, it is a pretty sad situation indeed. Next step will be the terrorists rushing into schools, homes, and shopping malls.
