Your Take on Micheal Weiner(Savage)

Hey DU,

I listen to Micheal Savage. Though I do not support his overall agenda, there are some things that he hits right on the head and doesn't dance around the point on. He did have a very liberal past hanging out amongst the likes of Allen Ginsburg and Tim Leary during the 50's and 60's.

He doesn't consider himself a Republican, but a conservative of "old" America that his family raised him in. Some of his rhetoric actually makes sense, but then he ruins it with the same old cliche of either harming or killing someone or a group of someone.

However, I think Savage who has a talk show on from 6 eastern until 10 eastern works in our favor. He hates Republicans and Democrats alike, however a lot of his listeners are actually smart, debating people. Except that is when someone from the ACLU calls, then he threatens them and actually gives them a time and place to meet to fight.

Since there is a lack of liberal radio here, I listen to only Savage because deep inside he is a smart man, however he is angry. He brings up intelligent points and sometimes even comes up with something I agree with. How do you feel about Michael Savage?

"Even It is correct twice a day?" I have never listened to him, nor plan to. There is just too much else to read and digest. I do get some of his comments occasionally from my auto mechanic who listens religiously to him. From that little bit, I gather that the guy might be way, way out in right field (like the neighboring county), but still is debating some important issues. He doesn't have to be agreeable or "correct", just civil and allow genuine debate IMO. We need all the ideas that we can get to unscrew the mess in which we currently find ourselves. No one has a monopoly on the best ideas. We need the debate, we need to listen, we need to disagree, because then we are forced to look for better ideas to bring forward. It is the process and the debate itself that are crucial.

He's one of those over-inflated talking heads in the media that media slaves can't seem to divorce themselves from. I've never seen him, never heard him, never felt the slightest interest in doing so, and probably never will.

I don't "get" why Americans seem to crave time spent listening to people spewing hot air over the airwaves.

At least, on my computer, I don't have to hear it and I can surf around looking for something of interest to read or respond to. I guess the only difference is that I'm reading instead of watching or listening. I like that better; it's faster. I can scan something and then dump it if it isn't my thing, or spend more time if there is something worth pondering in the content. I read faster than audio or video. :shrug:

Even Conservatives I know HATE him for his hate spewing radio show. I actually listened to him and I didn't hear one "smart, debating" person call in. All I heard was idots and rednecks that agreed with him, and others that got hung up on (who knows why they called in the first place) b/c they had a point on him.

I had a long drive yesterday and was listening to his vitriolic diatribe on the elder Bush breaking down in public. (So sue me, I like to laugh at idiots on the radio, I watch Robert Tilton on PTL too when I'm bored)

He can be entertaining though.

I'll tune in occasionally about once every two weeks. Then, after about 30 seconds, my sense of conscience comes back and I remember that it's nice to laugh at the mentally ill.
