Iran to host meeting on Holocaust

Iran's foreign ministry will host an international conference in Tehran next week that will ask if the Holocaust in World War II actually happened.An official said 67 foreign scholars from 30 countries would be attending, but refused to say who they were.

A spokesman for the Iranian foreign ministry, Manouchehr Mohammadi, said the two-day conference would begin on 11 December.


Mr Mohammadi refused to identify the scholars who would attend because, he said, some of them had had their passports taken away by foreign governments to prevent them attending.

He said the idea of a Holocaust conference had first been proposed by President Ahmadinejad, and the first question to be posed was - did the Holocaust actually happen or not?

1. Uh, yes it did

and not all who died were Jews. Noorunisa Khan, daughter of Inayat Khan, founder of my Sufi Order, was arrested by the Nazis for her activities with the French Resistance. She was tortured, shot, and shoved into the ovens while she was still alive. All during her torture, she refused to give out any information, not even her name. Hers is just one story--there are millions more. The only reason I write this is to show that people from different faiths were also murdered by the Nazis--but then Ahmadinejad persecutes and tortures Sufis in Iran, so he might think what happened to Noor was ok.

2. Of course not all who died in the Holocaust were

Jews. I think most people here know that. I' familiar with the story of Noorunisa Khan. (I know quite a few Sufis). Still, the point of the conference is almost solely about denying that the Holocaust happened to Jews.

this is a personal obsession with him, not merely playing to the base. It is kind of fascinating to watch the lengths he'll go to.

6. So they will punish the nasty folks that got him a ticket to the show?

However, Baztab posted footage which purported to show Mr Ahmadinejad in his seat after the show. Jalal Yahyazadeh, a rightwing MP, said: "We have heard from some sources that Ahmadinejad was in the stadium at the time. Those who created the conditions for his presence should be investigated as quickly as possible."
