Ahmadinejad tells West to follow God or vanish from face of the earth
http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/12/06/061206101357.8mjamnal.html

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has warned Western leaders to follow the path of God or "vanish from the face of the earth".
"These oppressive countries are angry with us ... a nation that on the other side of the globe has risen up and proved the shallowness of their power," Ahmadinejad said in a speech in the northern town of Ramsar, the semi-official news agency Mehr reported Wednesday.

They are angry with our nation. But we tell them 'so be it and die from this anger'. Rest assured that if you do not respond to the divine call, you will die soon and vanish from the face of the earth," he said.

The outspoken president also maintained Iran's defiance over its controversial nuclear programme, saying it was on course to fully master nuclear technology.

"Thank to God's help, we have gone all the way and are only one step away from the zenith.

12. He's a parrot, he says what the Guardian Council tells him to say
This is the kind of shit those asshats pull: http://www.masnet.org/aroundworld.asp?id=819

TEHRAN, Jan 12 (MASNET & News Agencies) - Iran was plunged into a major political crisis after powerful conservatives moved to disqualify massive numbers of reformists from contesting next month's crucial parliamentary elections, a move one MP branded a "coup d'etat".

There was uproar in parliament, held for the past four years by moderates loyal to President Mohammad Khatami, as it emerged the Guardians' Council, a constitutional watchdog, had also barred leading pillars of the reform movement - including the brother of the president, reports Agence France-Presse (AFP).

"I consider this rejection of candidates to be an illegal coup d'etat and an act of regime change by non-military means," fumed Mohsen Mirdamadi, head of the parliament's foreign policy and national security commission.

Mirdamadi was one more than 80 incumbent reformist MPs barred from standing in the February 20 election by the 12-member Guardians' Council, an unelected political oversight body and bastion of the religious right. ...

That twit those ayatullahs installed against the real wishes of the people is the Iranian version of GWB, make no mistake.

10. Yeah, I'm sure Ahmadenijad gets a weeks worth of shows from Glenn Beck.
These two are virtually the same person. Who is more powerful? That is an interesting question.

8. That little psycho twerp can go fuck himself. He's nothing but a puppet/tool of the Ruling Council.
You gotta wonder who the President of Iran would be, other than that asshole, if the Ayatullahs hadn't disqualified all the GOOD candidates who were running in order to install this idiotic, unhelpful tool.

Not that the position has any clout--all he does is take orders and parrot the party line.

Really, how could it, when a bunch of Holy Men are the ones who decide who can, and cannot, even appear on the ballot?

About the only good thing this clown has going for him is that he's the Middle East's own version George Bush--full of himself, didactic, sabre-rattling, and talking out his ass. Geez, we're not alone in our suffering...the good people of Iran have a (forgive the expression) cross to bear as well....

11. I agree with your sentiments here, MADem
which is why I posted the article. I know people are wary of the religious right in the USA, and some (not many) hold Ahmadinejad up as an example because he defies George Bush. But, his views are dangerous.

15. It cracks me up, to be honest, how people can, in total ignorance, cheer the jerk on
He IS an Iranian George Bush--a stupid, stubborn, not too smart PUPPET, who dances to the tune of the Guardian Council. Imagine how we'd feel if a bunch of shitheads removed our candidates from the ballot, and replaced them with jerks that were acceptable to say, the BushCo cabinet...and those were our only choices?

Yet people cheer this clown simply because he thinks Bush is an asshole--like that is somehow a "unique" position. Holding that opinion is certainly not an indicator of intelligence, that's simply a demonstration of his awareness of world events.

The Ayatullahs threw any hope for reform back to the post-revolution days when they rigged the elections to make sure he won--and the bullshit they pulled in the masjids to GOTV for this putz made the shenannigans in FL during Bush-Gore look like child's play. I don't think they can rely on a mix of nationalism and imperialist ambitions in the ME to assuage their citizenry forever, though. They've got a very young, sharp, vibrant population, and those kids want to have some FUN...and they aren't being allowed to have much, if any, in theocratic Iran.

I don't know a single Iranian who likes the guy. They think he's a short little shit who is full of himself....

17. religion is an excuse not a cause
big difference. People have died because of religion but more often it's an excuse to push some other agenda such as land snatching, empire building, or genocide. Leaders can feed "well they follow the wrong religion" to the masses day in and day out to justify their conquests. It works surprisingly well. A common religion can mean a common background. It is a good way to unify your forces.

Is the Arab-Israeli conflict about land or religion? It doesn’t seem like either side wants the other to convert. The same can be said of the civil war in Iraq. They are going for political power not religious authority. Many of the conflicts throughout history can be looked at in the same light.

Exceptions? Of course. Not enough to establish religion as a root cause of war.

21. It should be...
While I think that humans are the cause of most of the world's wars and problems, I think that they use religion as a crutch in those problems a good amount of the time.

Ahmadinejad is also using his religion as justification for his actions. It doesn't sit well with me.

16. And yet...
"President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran, who flaunts his ideological fervour, has been accused of undermining Iran's Islamic revolution after television footage appeared to show him watching a female song and dance show.

The famously austere Mr Ahmadinejad has been criticised by his own allies after attending the lavish opening ceremony of the Asian games in Qatar, a sporting competition involving 13,000 athletes from 39 countries. The ceremony featured Indian and Egyptian dancers and female vocalists. Many were not wearing veils."

http://www.guardian.co.uk/iran/story/0,,1964075,00.html

Poor Mahmoud will disappear soon. :nopity:

I love to smell burning hypocracy in the morning.

18. That's funny....
Thanks for the link to that article. I do find it amusing, as he was at international Asian games which included female dancers. Personally, I don't think that's a big deal, and it would have been undiplomatic for him to leave. But, this just shows the extreme nature of those who are ruling Iranian politics that this would be a problem for him. And I don't even like the man.

The Iranian people are amazing people, and they've been subjected to this theocracy for a long time. It makes me sad for their sakes. I hope that the winds of change are blowing in the air, and that they will rise up and take the reins back.

23. Serious pundits keep saying he is just playing to his base. Still - he
is about the creepiest of the creepy on this earth. You have to wonder what would happen politically all over the middle east if Israel and Palestine found peace. I bet ya the issue would then be about true democracy within Iran and Saudi Arabia and Syria. So..because they need the issue of Israel to knock around.. I believe that 1. they don't want peace 2. they want Israel to stay exactly where it is.
