Leaks to NYT show Bush admin has lost control of its story
A year ago, they had their pitbulls calling for charging the Times with treason...

http://www.poynter.org/column.asp?id=45&aid=114890

New York Observer
That's what Times columnist Frank Rich says. Executive editor Bill Keller notes that the administration offered a "much more subdued reaction" to the Times' publication of the Donald Rumsfeld and Steven Hadley memos. "In the earlier cases, the Administration and its amen chorus argued ... that publication posed some danger to national security. In the case of the Hadley and Rumsfeld memos, the damages were more in the realm of diplomacy and credibility. I guess it’s easier to rally the faithful with a cry of 'national security’ than with a complaint that 'this is really embarrassing.'"

1. Bush Scapegoated
The truth is Bush is being held out as a sacrificial lamb. Obviously he is a big part of the problem but he is far from the biggest. Those above him who hold the real power, are now hanging him out to dry so as their culpability wont be found out. Look for the Dem's to run another DINO like Hillary or whomever instead of a real liberal like cynthia mckinney or Dennis Kucinich.

3. This is merely to satisfy my own curiosity
but why do you capitalize Dennis Kuchinich's name, which is correct, and use small letters for Cynthia McKinney? Is she somehow less a person because she's a woman, or black? Regarding your post, however, I don't believe that Bush is being offered as a scapegoat. He's guilty, and he in no way should be able to evade responsibility for his horribly bad decisions.

4. Mckinney
Oh for crying out loud. I knew as soon as I did that ACCIDENTLY that someone would make a comment. Dont be oversensitive if I had to choose either McKinney or Kuchinich it was a mistake! Obviously I dont think she is less of a person because she is black or a woman, I want her to be president! I am a libertarian I guess this is why I refuse to call myself a liberal because you people are so damn sensitive about race and sex.

11. Thanks for the explanation
It just seemed strange to me that your use of lower case was changed to upper case in the same sentence. Very often, people who make mistakes in grammar, or punctuation, keep making the same mistakes. Since you're new, you might want to take advantage of your ability to edit your posts. That way, there will be no misunderstandings. You have a sixty minute time frame in which to edit your own posts.

14. Not all of us
I'm a liberal, but I'm not a Dem, and I'm understanding of typing mistakes. :) I agree with your first post, it'll be a surprise if things aren't status quo two years from now. That's the way it seems to be shaping up unfortunately. I'd vote for Kucinich for President before anyone else but he's got as much chance of running again as McKinney does running a first time.

Welcome to DU, brainspiller!

7. Yeah. Bush was very reluctant to invade Iraq
He spent a lot of time trying to find other options. He said repeatedly, he didn't want to invade. He tried to tell the army not to go to Iraq, but they did it anyway. He gave speeches saying how we shouldn't invade Iraq.

Somebody from Mars made him do it. He's INNOCENT, I tell ya, Innocent!!!!

2. I was waiting for more investigations.
I guess these were "sanctioned" leaks from officially approved sources. So, no problem with them, since National Security was apparently never endangered and there is nothing the public needs to be distracted from at the moment. Gonzo can always launch a long lasting fruitless probe later which will dominate the news cycle and distract the media from whatever catastrophe is about to swallow the (mal)administration.

9. a sacrificial lamb?
Hell no, he may be the village idiot, see other gd thread but he is no sacrificial lamb. He is just as guilty or even more guilty for his actions. He has blood on his hands.

10. he is guilty but...
Yes he is guilty but there are people above him who are much more culpable. Cheney, Bush Sr., Kissinger, Baker and numerous business interests who truly call the shots. He is guilty for going along with all this and should be doing life in a federal pen. My point is lets not be satasified just by taking Bush down, lets get the whole gang. www.impeachnow.us

12. Welcome to DU and I couldn't agree more.

The REAL criminals are hiding behind the curtains.
Bush could NEVER have gotten away with half of
what he did if not for THEIR protection and participation
from the shadow world in which THEY operate.

Crushing Bush the JR. is like calling the bug exterminator
to take care of the one roach you saw in the kitchen-
fact is, the source of the problem is
behind your kitchen wall. Without dealing with
that infestation, there will be no solution to the problem
of the roach take over of our kitchen.
The roaches behind the wall will simply send in another
to replace the one you got rid of, and trust me, that
particular group of roaches is very large in number...
