STUDENTS at the Islamic school from which two boys were expelled for desecrating the Bible were shown videos of a banned cleric calling Australian Christians "evil" and non-Muslim schools "sewers".

The Australian yesterday revealed the school in Melbourne's north expelled two boys and suspended a third over the desecration - a Bible was urinated on, spat on and burnt - during a school camp for boys from years 7 to 10 boys last week.

The Australian has obtained a videotape from the school's library of a lecture given for Australian Muslims by the firebrand British convert Abdur Raheem Green, who was blocked from coming to Australia last year.

In the video, believed to have been taped during a visit in 2003, Green describes Australian non-Muslims as "evil people" and says Muslims in this country must openly criticise Christianity and lure people to Islam.

Islam teaches that the bible is a holy book. Flawed... but holy. The kids getting kicked out for desecrating it is understandable. It is a religious school after all. I don't understand the injection of them viewing the particular cleric mentioned.

4. Sounds to me like there was an underground tape by Green,

and he really got his lessons wrong when he studied for his conversion. The Koran, the Bible and the Torah are all equally sacred books, and the Koran was written as an extension of the Bible, meant to clarify where the bible got it wrong. Islam does not teach that the bible is evil.

but i suppose Green can come up with his schtick about as easily as the Christian Identity crazies can come up with theirs - selective reading and radical interpretation that flies in the face of centuries old understandings.

Kudos to the school for coming down on it.

3. That so-called school needs to be shut down.

"Gee, little Ahmed, when we showed you that hate filled video we didn't mean for you to take it seriously".

Expelling 7-10 year old children who are only trying to follow the lessons the school has taught them is ridiculous. Instead, shut down the school and put the staff on trial for child abuse.

Any special treatment of the physical object of a 'Bible' that would differ from the above seems to meet the definition of idolatry to me.
