1. Ford came out against the filibuster - even though no one asked him
He's falling all over himself trying to prove that he's a good ol' boy.

28. Ford will be another LIEberman Senator next year
He is expected to win his Senate campaign, although there was a good Dem woman candidate running against him for the primary.

Let me go on the record as saying that Ford is not a good addition to the Dem Senate.

5. Ford can't decide who he should pander to
So he just follows the sound of where the cash is being raked his way. If we don't get a different candidate here in Tennessee, we are going to basically have two republicans as choices - Ford, Jr. and either Bryant or Hilleary.

Ford thinks by playing to the right, that he will get the conservative vote in Eastern Tennessee. He has no clue.

She is DLC but she's not bad like Ford. I don't see her going around hugging Frist. Here's her campaign site: http://www.kurita2006.com/

7. He's struggling politically in an increasingly white conservative West TN
Ford has his work cut out for him in Tennessee, which has increasingly become a knuckle-dragging, conservative Xtian stronghold. I suspect his sycophantic actions are due, in part, to his reluctance to piss off this TN base.

That being said...his actions tonight were shameful and bootlicking-like.

15. No he doesn't
The east side where he's from, Memphis, is more democratic in national elections. He's trying to pander to the side I live on which is the conservative area in national elections. We do have a democratic governor, who is NOT Dlc by the way, and my mayor is an indie who reminds me of Jimmy Carter.

14. I don't want these Vichy Democrats infecting our caucus.
Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 11:29 PM by Zen Democrat
If they can't be elected by standing on principles, and twist and turn to win the knuckle-dragger vote at the expense of real Democrats, then they are no damned good.

When I heard him on Tony Snow's radio show and Snow said that he was the one Democrat he could vote for ... I discovered who Harold Ford, Jr. really was.

So because he was a supporter of Kerry, that means he has to be in lockstep with him every step of the way? I think not.

Harold Ford Jr. For U.S. Senate!

Ford Statement on President's State of the Union Address
Congressman Harold Ford, Jr. made the following statement today regarding President Bush's State of the Union address:

"The President struck a note of optimism and I applaud that, but optimism is nothing more than a word if it's not combined with action. Last year, President Bush promised to begin reducing the debt, privatize Social Security, make gas cheaper and find new energy sources and make health care easier to find and buy. A year later, gas is more expensive, health care is harder to find and afford, the national debt is nearly $8.2 billion and we've made no progress in solving the Social Security challenge.

"I hope the President will get serious about two or three goals - namely, energy security, ethics reform, and reducing the cost of health care. In order to do these things, he should work with Democrats and Republicans. When we do these things, we will reduce the deficit and at the same time lower taxes on middle class families. This is what I pray the President and Congress will do this year."
