FRANCE 24 is France's answer to CNN (with a distinct French POV) and just started broadcasting today. Better yet, you don't have to have sattelite TV to watch -- it's available on the web!

Go to http://www.france24.com/live/ to watch.

It's not even necessary to speak French -- you get to choose from French, English or Arabic language options.

6. It is producing normal news yet?

It says "come back on Dec 7th for a full version" - and all I've seen on the couple of times I've tried it is "this is the kind of thing we'll be telling you" and 30 second 'factoids' that aren't news.

Yes. It has been broadcasting since 11:30 this morning (Los Angeles time.) I'm watching from my desk as we speak.

On edit: It appears that a more advanced version of the website (I suspect something more like CNN.com) will be available tomorrow, after 8:30 p.m. Paris time, (11:30 a.m. Los Angeles time). In the meantime, however, they are live and on the air (or, preferably, on the net.)

8. That was where I got the "this is what we'll be doing" programme

at about 11:50 LA time, and when I looked at 2:54pm LA time, I saw the 30 second factoids (eg telling me it's important to use sunscreen). Now, they're broadcasting in French - but at 4:30 LA time, it does seem to have started broadcasting news (ie something that happened today).
