Really saddened by the report of Kim's body being found. More saddened about |
|
the report--not yet released by our government--about the loss of 10 US military in Iraq. The media will continue to report over and over about Kim (may he RIP) but little will be said about the 10 dead in Iraq today and their families. Our government has been very successful in not only hiding the level of violence in Iraq but hiding from the American people the real impact of the deaths of 2900 US service men and women and the more than 45,000 injured. It's time to show the bodies coming into Dover. It's time for the families of the returning dead to demand publicity. Only then will it sink into the American psyche what this illegal war in Iraq really means.

I don't know all the details, and by no means do I wish to detract from the heroic attempt made my Mr. Kim to save his family.
But why were they taking a vacation by driving on a windy, treacherous mountain road, in the middle of nowhere, during a tremendous snowstorm, with icy and highly dangerous roads?
From what I heard they were going to the coast for the weekend, and were doing so willingly. My question is why? Too many people take risky chances such as this, and fly by the seats of their pants, oblivious to what hazards may be in their path. The American mentality of act first, worry about the consequences later.
This situation was completely preventable, and nothing forced those people to venture forth onto that icy mountain road in the middle of nowhere.

9. People want explanations. |
|
People want closure. People want to find out how to keep this from happening again.
So people ask questions.
It's got nothing to do with blaming James Kim, or being disrespectful of the troops.

11. He Sounded Like A Good Man |
|
I am sad that he lost his life. That she lost a husband. That the children lost their father.
Believe me, I know that shit happens, and life is a random series of events, many outside of our own control. It's just all the more unfortunate since their initial actions led to this fate being possible.
They don't deserve it. They didn't cause it. But if they had been more careful in the first place, the whole event would not have happened, and he would still be alive.
I just wish people would see the forest through the trees sometimes. Too many people don't stop and see the potential consequences to their actions. Whether that's our government getting into a needless war that resulted in 3K+ deaths of young men & women, or a family choosing to drive on a route which they could have learned was impassable, thus saving this traumatic outcome.

10. the storm came up quick w/ more punch than was predicted. |

the road shows up on some GPS map tools even though it's not reccommended for winter travel. the Kims aren't the first people to find themselves lost and trapped on that road. FCOL, what they did was perfectly normal for a young family, they were prepared, it was an accident. prayers and good thoughts for the family. and aas an aside, if Oregon had a full complement of first responders there's a good chance that road would have been checked much earlier. as i said, the Kims are not the first to have been found stranded thre.

14. My understanding, perhaps erroneous, is that the map he had |
|
didn't indicate that the road he took was closed in winter and therefore not plowed.

He said 20 marines were killed today. Don't know his source but since then I've seen reports about 10. Either number is unbelievable. Fugg Bushco.

6. There were ten troops killed in two seperate attacks. |
|
You can see how that can be misconstrued into 10 marines killed in each attack.
